CoS Session 31: Need a Hand?

General Summary

• 9/2/875
• Party arrives at gates of Kanara, even more industrious and smog-filled since the last time they visited
• Medraad uses psychic papers to convince bored guards
• Elan has a cousin who lives in capital, so they visit her first thing
• Cousin’s name is Lydia, who runs only flower shop in Kanara
• The flowers are wilted and weak-looking, but it’s a living
• It’s not like she has much competition
• Lydia’s home is small, but it’s a cheap and inconspicuous option
• She tells them about Verona, how she’s imprisoned in jail near Central Palace
• Execution’s happening in five days
• Adam goes shopping for some better weapons
• Finds some nice bracers made out of same metal as airship
• Rather than haggle down shopkeeper, he gets into best 2-out-of-3 fight
• It’s close, but Adam wins and gets half-price for bracers
• They also do shock damage occasionally!
• Elan tries to find potions, but they’re too magical for Avicenna’s tastes
• So she has to buy vitamins from super jacked guy instead
• Medraad summons Man in Black for chat in super dank and hazy alley
• Man in Black hates this anti-magic atmosphere
• Medraad asks about Fairouz, Man in Black feels like he owes him
• He wasn’t ready to meet Rexfur, not with all their history
• So Man in Black explains how Fairouz was Medraad’s mentor in cult
• She first told him about Carcosa, encouraged him to take voyage there
• She’s good at manipulating people, be careful when they meet
• Word is that Cella’s in Kanara too
• The Coven might be planning something with one of their own in prison
• The next day party does some reconnaissance work
• Adam and Nikolaj check out prison
• It’s smaller than the last one that got destroyed by dragon
• Verona’s imprisoned in 2nd basement level
• While Nikolaj’s scoping it out, Grego is tossed in nearby jail cell
• Aldo’s there to taunt Grego, Nikolaj invisibile through all of it
• Elan and Medraad go to morgue to get body
• There’s a plan to make it look like Three Fingers killed Verona
• In the morgue Elan speaks w/ dead woman, doesn’t go well
• Oh, and Willard Grimsbane shows up in morgue
• Boss Fight: Willard
• Medraad tries to scare him with psychic attacks, but he’s too crazy
• Willard goes on rampage, chops off both of their left hands
• Medraad fires off enough eldritch blasts to make him retreat
• Elan fires crossbow into his neck as he escapes, killing him
• And so begins the long process of taking the body from morgue to Lydia’s house
• They’re all invisible thanks to Elan
• But Elan’s invisible wears off before she gets home
• Some guards stop her, but she convinces them that she’s going to doctor
• Adam and Nikolaj are having tea with Lydia
• Upstairs Elan and Medraad explain situation
• They all rest up, Medraad speaks w/ Man in Black to get new hand
• It’s a clawed black hand, can do real damage
• Next day Elan tries to speak with Rexfur
• Nikolaj’s Rexfur token burns up, but he does elaborate Rexfur summoning ritual
• ie banging pots together and shouting his name multiple times
• Rexfur hologram shows up, Nikolaj gives him 1000GP for temple
• He’s reluctant to help out Elan
• It wouldn’t have the same feel as bringing someone back from dead
• Elan promises to do anything for him
• So Rexfur makes a skeleton hand painfully grow from Elan’s wrist
• When Rexfur wants his debt repaid, Elan will have to go
• And Rexfur wants a meeting with Man in Black in Gameria
• With new hands galore, the party tries to rescue Verona
• Aldo has called for a town-wide gathering
• He’s giving hours-long speech in honor of Willard
• Since they can’t find killers, they’re executing everybody in the prisons
• Better hurry!
• Adam is invisible carrying the morgue body, they make it to prison in time
• Guards have cleared out the first two levels of prison
• Medraad and Elan telepathically communicate w/ Verona,
• She understands, party starts fire in cell and replaces body
• Grego’s talking to himself, saying Coven will avenge him
• It’s an elaborate process of making entire party invisible
• Adam and Nikolaj go first
• They loiter outside, throw trash at Grego when he comes out
• Then Elan and Medraad invisibly go up w/ Verona
• Then the party hoofs it to the town gate
• Most of the guards are at the city square or prison
• Medraad uses 'telekinesis' to move Adam and Nikolaj over wall
• Elan turns Medraad into void chicken so he can fly over wall
• Elan casts Dimension door to get her and Verona out of town
• They pick up their horses from the stable (Misty et al.)
• As they’re galloping away, a massive explosion wracks Kanara
• Guess the Coven started their war with Avicenna
