DW Session 15: Much Ado About Veridan
General Summary
13/1/896
- Party still reeling from Amara’s death
- Adam and Wilbur debriefed by Cassandra, recount events leading to Amara's death
- Adam blames himself, takes body to be embalmed and preserved
- Wilbur suggests that Amara could be resurrected as a wight
- Cassandra’s unsure, but Adam flat-out refuses
- He knows Roland would hate to see his daughter as an undead
- The Sunken God is displeased by this development
- He wants a champion/fighter for his cause
- Wilbur assures the Sunken God he’ll find a suitable replacement
- Party gets paid for Battle of Hedgpeth, spends a few more days in town
- Adam stops by sorbet store, it’s run by Rockthorn now!
- The food’s cheaper, but it tastes much worse
- Wilbur goes to potions store, buys Oil of Taggit
- Merchant wants 600GP, Wilbur casts Suggestion and gets it for 150
- The Accuser and Cassandra tell party about their next assignment
- Veridan’s still on the run, haven’t been able to hunt him down
- But he has valuable secrets about the Characters
- Especially The Mariner’s identity
- An Elflands royal family member named Banquo was spotted leaving Kassadeia
- He was headed towards a small tavern named Much Ado on the way to Kassadeia
- As head of intelligence for Elflands, Banquo may be meeting with Veridan
- The orders: go there, break up meeting, kill Veridan if you can
- The party also gains a new barbarian-fighter in its ranks
- A stout and hearty-looking Sardivelian by the name of Jax
- He likes a good drink, and he’s from a minor noble familly
- Party travels towards Kassadeia, Amara’s casket in the back of wagon
- Jax fills party in on his life of sailing, living with orcs, joining Characters
- And no, he has never met Paoli personally
- The party finally makes it to a small tavern named Much Ado
- About a couple weeks away from Kassadeia
- Only a couple of patrons sitting around that night
- An elven guard stands watch at the top of the stairs leading to bedrooms
- Jax goes up to bar, flirts with bartender and drinks a ton of dragonshine
- Adam has a couple glasses of Sardivelian Snakebite
- Cassandra has some wine, Wilbur doesn’t drink
- Wilbur’s thoughts detect people upstairs discussing war plans/Characters
- He begins mentally tormenting the guard upstairs
- The guard freaks out, heads downstairs for a drink
- Wilbur poisons a drink with Oil of Taggit
- Jax tries to give it to the guard, but he spills it on him instead
- The guard passes out instantly, mouth foaming and unconscious
- Clementine, the bartender, has to take guard to nearby elven barracks
- She gives keys to a female patron, she locks the tavern up
- The female patron insists that everybody should stay downstairs
- It’s been a couple hours, but there’s still a meeting upstairs
- The party gets suspicious, gets antsy and wants to go upstairs
- When Wilbur mentions Banquo’s name, she attacks
- Turns out she’s an assassin!
- Tavern Brawl: Veridan, Banquo, and Izzara the Assassin
- Izzara deals a devastating attack to Wilbur, piercing and poisoning
- First person to deal damage to him!
- Four satyrs show up in the tavern as music plays upstairs, a gift from Veridan
- The satyrs attack Adam, putting him to sleep
- Wilbur summons eight Deep Ones in retaliation
- A couple of them start nibbling on Adam
- Jax rushes the upstairs door, breaks it down and goes inside
- There’s a table in the back where Veridan and Banquo are hiding
- He pushes Banquo down the stairs, jumps onto table
- He lands several good blows to Veridan
- Veridan loses concentration, satyrs disappear
- So he turns invisible and runs downstairs
- At bottom of the stairs Banquo gets attacked by Deep Ones
- Adam, awoken by Deep Ones bites, fights again
- He fires off his longbow, kills Banquo
- Veridan thinks he’s in the clear, but Wilbur senses his presence with his mind
- He fires off a bunch of Eldritch blasts, killing him instantly
- In the fallout Wilbur decides to pick up Veridan’s soul
- He gets an idea of the kind of intel he was selling
- Something about how ‘Your boss isn’t who he says he is’, referring to the Mariner
- Clementine will return soon, so party packs up and leaves tavern
- Wilbur decapitates Banquo’s head
