DW Session 7: Meeting the Mariner
General Summary
9/1/896
- The next day they set their plan in motion
- Gell’s off somewhere dealing with a dragonborn moonshine dealer
- Adam's a tad hungover, but they get their plan in motion
- First, Adam hires some homeless people as ruffians
- 250GP for five guys
- Second, Amara tries to rile up a crowd at Bocaccio’s
- She fails miserably, only gets three people to join her
- And that’s after paying close to 100GP
- The two of them regroup at Firenze’s to take out Gremio
- A half-elf bard named Veridan is performing
- This bard goes up to Gremio’s private suite to perform
- Gremio’s impressed by his killer performance, pays him 500G
- Just then, Adam and Amara break down the door under the assumed names Jones Burns and Jones Burns
- During bard’s performance they’ve been arguing w/ guards at door
- They’re orcs, and they’re not interested in causing scene
- Adam convinces one of them to go home for 300GP
- The other one refuses to go
- That’s when the two of them break down the door
- Boss Fight: Duke Gremio
- Gremio has half a dozen guards vs. Adam and Amara’s team
- It’s total bedlam in moments
- Broken tables and chairs, shattered glasses everywhere
- Veridan sees all this carnage
- He hides behind conjured liquor cabinet
- Amara takes a lot damage, axe wielder vs. axe wielder
- Gremio does a devastating wave attack w/ axe
- But Amara makes him lose his balance, falls prone
- Adam also gets plenty of licks in, delivers killing blows
- Gremio mocks them and their work for Characters
- Warns them that they’re working for ‘one of us’
- This catches the bard’s attention
- Once Gremio is dead Adam and Amara jump out the window
- The bard rushes downstairs into alley below
- His stealth is insane, he spies on the two of them unnoticed
- While party decides where to go, bard casts illusory image of self
- The bard’s name is Veridan, and he’s interested in what the party’s doing
- This Characters group sounds promising, fighting good fight
- He wants to follow party and learn more about group
- Reluctantly, the two of them agree to Veridan’s wishes
- They’re a little suspicious of his magic though
- Party buys new clothes after fight, Adam goes to Cassandra’s
- Cassandra gives him address for safe-house, thanks them for work
- She promises to get them a meeting with The Mariner the next day
- He’s coming into town for the business deal!
- The party goes over to safe house, hidden under a carpenter’s shop
- A couple of the homeless ruffians notice them
- This is despite Veridan’s impressive stealth spell
- Ruffians demand the second half of their pay, Adam forks it over
- At the safe house Amara tells Veridan more about party’s history
- Veridan takes down notes, is intrigued by Characters even more
- Can’t wait to meet leader of the group in-person
- The party lays low for a bit until meeting with Mariner
- Meanwhile, Elan takes care of Cereus’ illness in Kassadeia
- She takes him to Prichard, helps with healing
- Cereus recovers pretty well, but still feels rough
- A representative from the Characters gives them communication ring for them to meet with the Mariner
- Finally, party is guided to meeting with the Mariner
- He’s a medium-sized man with weather-beaten sailor mask
- Elan and Cereus are in room as holograms
- Mariner thanks them for all their work killing Elflands royalty
- He takes off mask, reveals he’s a high elf!
- Turns out he’s a nobleman named Prospero
- Won’t tell last name ;)
- He’s suspicious of Veridan, not sure if he’s willing to shed blood
- The next step is to murder the Empress after all
- Party convinces Mariner that Veridan will get there
- Mariner assigns next mission: deal with kuo-toa priest in Oridelfa
- He’s high priest of the Church of Seevo
- He’s stopping kuo-toa from joining Characters
- Party will head out as soon as Cereus and Elan get to Silvio
