GHG Session 12: A Bad Week for Reptiles
General Summary
Month 9, Week 1, Year 918
As the last one on watch, Phaedra was the first to wake the party for an early-morning meeting and some warm cups of coffee from the magical Desperan Press. Phaedra questioned if the party should even continue on their journey towards Liadon Keep: the person who asked them to collect a chalice from the ruins, Jezebeth Rahal, hadn't even joining them on the mission. After some debate the consensus appeared to be that while Jezebeth was misguided with her aetherforged project, her magic abilities would still prove useful if she could conjure a 'Heroes' Feast' for the party with the chalice from Liadon Keep. As an alternative to cold-blooded murder, Phaedra called up GHG Leader Kirby asking him to talk down Jezebeth from her work on the aetherforged. Kirby expressed confidence that he could change Jezebeth's mind in 23 minutes flat. Phaedra then turned to the meeting's next order of business: eliminating her Merrshaulk-worshipping snakes. Despite objections from Windred and Zan'kiri, Phaedra was dead-set on destroying her childhood pets to prevent further evil in the world. The argument ended when Phaedra's a well-placed 'Chaos Bolt' plunged Melody, Do, Re, and Mi to their deaths. With their dying breath Melody begged for Phaedra to be 'brought into the fold', a conversation that Argus picked up on thanks to his 'Speak With Animals' spell. Dejected from a bitter morning, the Fortunate Five continued on a slow trek towards Liadon Keep before camping the night about a mile away from the outpost's entrance. The watch was uneventful, save for a weeping spirit mourning the loss of his partner Riked. The spirit turned violent when Phaedra mentioned the Sunken God, and his wails woke up the rest of the party for another dark and stormy battle. The spirit was finally put to rest, vanishing into the ether along with the tree it had wept for years under. The next morning brought the party face-to-face with the ruins of Liadon Keep, thick pools of swampy water flooding the grounds and the mess hall all but in ruins. With Ysmyrelda and Phaedra at watch by the entrance, the rest of the group started investigating the still-intact buildings for the chalice and any other valuables. The shadowy husks of spirits haunted the ruined keep, alerting a huge gator-like sahuagin when Argus stepped too close to one shade in the armory. This monstrous sahuagin nearly swallowed Windred whole, but her wild shaping into a giant lizard and the party's barrage of spells saved her from being the creature's meal for the day. Plenty of valuable and magical items were found around the keep, like the enchanted accoutrements of deceased Handgun agent Norman. The expensive chalice Jezebeth sought was found in the officer's quarters, alongside letters mentioning a 'Protocol Bianca' from the Elflands Empire's final months of existence...
