GHG Session 31: Spas, Museums, and Statue Tours
General Summary
Month 13, Week 2, Year 918
Still stinging from the guilt of abandoning a fellow party member, the Fortunate Five dutifully reported their findings to Samira Kayhane and described the threat posed by the archmage Monomakh. At Samira's urging, most of the party headed towards a bathhouse near the university to wash away all the grime and horrors weathered in the sewers beneath the city. Beforehand Zan'kiri interrogated the elven corpse found down in the tunnels, a retainer for some exiled Kiri Clan nobles named Sazama Shoji who was investigating 'insidious bookkeepers'. Frustrated by the body's vague warnings and condescending statements about getting into the noble family's good graces, Zan'kiri stormed off to the bathhouses while Beguiler inquired with Patrick about a scroll of 'Greater Restoration'. Patrick managed to pick one up during his courier routes, but the 1,500GP price tag was a bit too steep for the mouse until he'd picked up his first Chusei paycheck. At the bathhouses Windred put on a lightshow with her enchanted tattoos while the group debated the best way to resolve the Monomakh situation. The group felt as though they couldn't leave Reetma in a jar down in the sewers, and a quick 'Clairvoyance' spell from Zan'kiri confirmed that Monomakh was trying to transform the tiefling's body into a mosaic of purple gems. Ys was curious about the gem she'd been 'gifted' from the archmage, still testing its power and its limits. Once the group agreed on rescuing Reetma, they met with Headmistress Kyoko Hara to discuss the operation and the resources needed. Kyoko didn't see Monomakh as the greatest threat to the city's safety, but she was immensely impressed with the party's success against the Gruumsh-worshiping lizardfolk and ordered Toshiro Matsui to provide them with a handful of reinforcements for their dungeon raid against Monomakh that night. This meeting happened at noon, beforehand the group spent the morning in the Museum of Natural Wonders trying to learn more about the long-lost civilization of Old Myltev that Monomakh once belonged to. After browsing through the statues and ancient arcane foci, Toshiro begrudgingly introduced the party to their new allies. The first was a silver dragonborn from Sabha with a warhammer, the second was a female samurai named Oshima, and the third was a human fighter named Oh Klahoma who was too old for this shit. That evening the FF descended back into the sewers, finding the passageway into Monomakh's lair blocked off by a stone wall with the archmage's mocking face etched onto the front. Vernost managed to hammer away at the stone unnoticed for several minutes, Zan'kiri's battering ram helping to deal with the excess stones before his 'Silence' spell wore off. A stone angel waited on the other side, nearly killing Vernost with a single blow of its rocky arm. The fight quickly turned in the party's favor, especially once Zan'kiri sucked up the angel's life force and suddenly sprouted a head of gorgeous silvery hair. The party had little time to admire this necromantic facelift, Monomakh hearing the party's battle upstairs and choosing to turn the dungeon against them. They started to race downstairs to face the archmage head-on, Bubbles and Oshima lagging behind as Monomakh shook the floors of the atrium and knocked them prone (Beguiler stayed behind to help them downstairs). The rest of the party made it back down into the labs, ready for the fight of their lives...
