GHG Session 50: Crouching Grung, Hidden Dragon
General Summary
Month 3, Week 1, Year 919
The Fortunate Five unexpectedly found themselves fighting together against Jin Wa and his team of buff goliaths in the final match of the tournament, a reward for their flawless run through the tournament match-ups. Fighters like Reetma and Xa'kara were given back their custom-made weapons for the fight, but many of the spellcasters were working with limited options having prepared spells under vastly different circumstances earlier in the day. There was some shock at seeing Jin Wa magically grow twelve feet tall to tower over the battlefield, especially when he banished Xa'kara to a caramel-filled demiplane with a flick of his wrist and a magic phrase. But despite the initial shock, the party managed to hold its own in the fight. Reetma and Teherse'singh's sturdy consitutions protected them from even Jin Wa's worst caramel salvo, and once Xa'kara returned from the caramel demiplane they altogether formed a bubble of near invulnerability against the the golden grung's puches and blows. Ys raced into the bleachers to try and fire off sneak attacks at Jin Wa, and Bubbles managed to hold their own in a one-on-one battle with a buff goliath. The inflection point came near the end of the fight, when after dowsing the party with a steaming hot geyser of caramel Jin Wa failed to banish Windred to the caramel demiplane. This gave her vital time to heal fallen allies and polymorph Zan'kiri into a giant Ape, and in a matter of seconds he managed to batter the goldengrung dragon into oblivion.
For the first time in its millennia-spanning history, outsiders managed to flawlessly defeat the Way of the Range's greatest fighters to become undisputed champions of the tournament. Chastened and a little miffed by the defeat, Jin Wa met in private with the FF to give them their 5,000GP of reward money and assured them that he would attend Kyoko Hara's international conference in Sanjuro City later that spring. He expressed reservations about the trip, complaining about the changing times in the Northern Territories and worried that his dragon identity would be revealed at the conference. He tried convincing Zan'kiri to accept a life within the Veil, but he stayed true to his word and rewarded the gith with valuable information for finding a wonderful book of goliath erotica in the library: a list of five wielders of Horns of Valhalla on Pescaliat.
While most of the party slept the day away after their exhausting battle with Jin Wa, Teherse'singh attended a screening of the old draconic cinemalogue Kysirblanca while Ys tried to learn about Gaultier and Rho's whereabouts from veteran members of the Way of the Slap. The party stayed in the monastery for a while longer to enjoy the festivities, but several members took the free time as an opportunity for an impomptu tattoo session. Xa'kara received an Eldritch Claw tattoo in the shape of a scorpion, the party's magic item reward as victors of the tournament. Ysmyrelda got a tattoo of three ravens on the back of her neck, but no matter the ink used the third raven always turned out golden. Windred got a tattoo of of some bindweed, and as always Craghan Navierre had some opinions on her body art decisions.
