HHI Session 22: What Break-In?

General Summary

Month 5, Week 3, Year 908
Apprehended during their failed heist of Chusei University's Museum of Natural Wonders, the Seeking Scorpions were herded into Prof. Kyoko Hara's office for a brief interrogation. Rifling through their belongings and magic items, she pressed the party for information about the local Handgun chapter along with the names of its members. Kiros lied and said that the Gatekeeper tasked them with breaking into the museum.   Kyoko didn't appear convinced, and she asked the party about the Deck of Many Things in their bag. Mavis reluctantly drew a card to show the deck's power, drawing The Gem card as fifty dazzling crystals fell onto the office floor. Prof. Hara kept these gems along with all of the party's gold, freeing the party on the condition that they would leave Sanjuro City by dawn.   Broke and humiliated by a longtime rival, Mavis mugged a local merchant to make some extra gold as Ithilwen prepared to escape the city. Kiros, however, refused to leave good enough alone and tried to rob the museum one more time. He was promptly arrested, transferred to the city guard to rot in prison for years to come.   Regret hung deep on Mavis as she packed up her belongings, pausing over the Deck of Many Things for several moments as she decided to draw a few more cards. The Fool made her feel weaker. The Rogue warned of a future betrayal. The Fates was the one that granted Mavis, for a brief moment, the power to entirely reshape the fabric of reality. This old kenku had decades of regrets and mistakes she'd like to undo, but tonight's humiliation burned brightest in her mind. Taking the threads of reality in her hands, she reshaped history so that the party never decided to break into the museum and Kiros was never caught. Her room was enveloped in a bright flash of light, blinding Mavis...   Month 5, Week 3, Year 908
Later that day Kiros met up with Ryota, a tiefling shopkeeper and the Handgun's main operator in the city. Most of the region's agents were in the Kiri Clan picking up abandoned relics, but Ryota apologized and said that there weren't any outstanding assignments for Kiros to pursue. A little disappointed, Kiros returned to the Closeport Tavern and ran into a tired-looking Mavis, looking confused and lost as the effects of her Fates card came into effect.   With an entire day free, Ithilwen spent her day browsing for a new weapon for inevitable battles. She found a dwarven blacksmith willing to craft a masterworked blade known as a 'katana', curved and sharpened for agile fighters. With her scimitar from Sabha and shortsword from the Elflands, Ithilwen was amassing an international arsenal of weapons.   That same day while Mavis was drinking tea with Sanjuro City's elderly and processing the time shift, Kiros decided to rob a mansion on his own without the Handgun's help. A well-to-do estate near downtown caught his eye, sneaking in through a second-story window and stalking up to the owner's bedroom on the third floor. He found an imposingly magical suit of armor worth stealing, but he barely managed to escape when two guards discovered him hiding in the closet. He wasn't familiar with Northern Territories armor, but the set looked perfect for his orcish ally.   Speaking of Ownka, her and Log ran into some complications with their lizardfolk raid on the ship captain's estate. Earlier in the night it was the victim of a break-in, dozens of town guards investigating the scene of the crime and making any raid all but impossible. Scarr and the other lizardfolk abandoned the mission with bitter disappointment, suspicious of Gruumsh and his so-called powers.   The party reunited in some shape or form at the tavern that night, Kiros approaching Ownka to tell her about the new suit of armor he'd gotten for her. In return the orcish cleric performed a communion with Gruumsh for Kiros' benefit, Log hoping that the undead dragonborn would convert to the war god's cause. It didn't go as planned: Kiros was skeptical of Gruumsh's methods, and the war god mocked Kiros' cowardly retreat from the estate earlier that night. Ownka ironically played the peacemaker to get all sides to work together, promising another raid on the captain's mansion and finding orcish followers for Gruumsh. Kiros agreed to help Ownka and Log on the job, a more bloodthirsty side of his personality shining through for a moment. Mavis agreed to help them out to keep her mind off the the reality shift, a new party mission starting to form as this new reality adjusted to the consequences of the kenku's changes.
