HHI Session 6: Answered Prayers
General Summary
2/2/908
After multiple crimes and a political assassination under their belts, the party (known as 'Seeking Scorpions' according to Mavis) decided they had overstayed their welcome in Orem. Maris Sissava, a yuan-ti agent and leader of the Garden Snake Committee, had provided the party with a boat to escape the city after they agreed to rescue a couple of her allies from the besieged city of Younashi in the Northern Territories. Ithilwen managed to find a cart to hide Ownka inside while they made their way to the city docks, the rest of the party casting 'Disguise Self' to avoid notice from Sabha's dragonborn guards. At the docks the party met with Seraphina, an old Sardivelian woman and owner of a small sailboat known as The Pearl Eater. She appeared to be an ally of Maris', asking very few questions about the party's background and welcoming them onto the ship's cramped quarters without complaint. 2/3/908
It took the party ten days to sail from Orem to the Sardivelian town of Renzi. From there the party could resupply itself and search for a safe way towards Younashi, perhaps taking odd jobs along the way. The party talked with each other some about their hometowns and friends they had left behind, but most days the adventurers kept to themselves with reading and crafts. Mavis read about Sardivelian architecture, Ithilwen read Tarpin Melchor's account of the Royal Knights Brigade's adventure to defeat the Sunken God, and Balasar read more of The Sebastian Syndrome to better understand his own wild magic powers. A pack of starved and ravenous sahuagin attacked the party a couple days outside of Sardivelian waters, but once the sahuagin priestess was defeated the others were easily dispatched. Ithilwen, rescued from the brink of death by Ownka, delivered the killing blow to the final sahuagin and split it in half. 2/4/908
The party arrived in Renzi a few days later, one of Sardivelia's oldest and most prestigious trading outposts. The city was a popular destination for pilgrims looking for safe passage through the Campanel Desert towards the Holy City of Dhamma. Upon arrival the party learned that Paoli Piedmonte was due to visit Renzi in a few days to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Iverburg. Moving through the crowded city, the party managed to find a room for rent at a tavern called Botticelli's before splitting up to explore the town. Ownka, noticing the city's massive temples, went to search for a shrine in honor of her god Gruumsh. Her search came up short, finding only the local temple of Luthic with a handful of orcs praying inside. While praying to Gruumsh the word 'Yo-Na' had come to her in a vision, and after asking some of the temple-goers Ownka learned that Yo-Na was the spirit guardian worshiped by several tribes of orcs in the Northern Territories. Balasar made his way over to Renzi's main piazza where a stage was being assembled for Paoli's arrival. He tried to cast 'Fog Cloud' on the area, but a mage overseeing the construction dispelled the simple cloud. A guard noticed Balasar's spellcasting when the dragonborn attempted to make a second 'Fog Cloud', but he managed to escape the guard by racing down some nearby alleyways. Ithilwen explored some of the nearby shops, purchasing potions from a gnomish woman and balking at the price of an enchantment on her shortsword. Mavis stayed back at the tavern, ordering several bottles of Joseph and updating The Gatekeeper on the party's progress. In a surprising development, Mavis managed to seduce the tavern's owner Priscilla Cosimo and spent an intimate evening with her. That night the party regrouped to discuss some of the missions found on the tavern's job boards. Some blue dragonborn from the Lotan Conservation were offering a generous reward for hunting down some poachers, and there was still a bounty to clear out nests of ankhegs out in the desert countryside. The party agreed to pursue the latter mission, searching the town for items to help them in the ankheg hunt. Ownka purchased some extra feet of chain to attach to her hunting trap, and Balasar found a book about some of the Campanel Desert's monstrous fauna. Finally, the next morning the party received its first significant payday from The Gatekeeper. Although they had been unable to find a suitable stronghold for him in Sabha, The Gatekeeper seemed pleased with the party's thoroughness and exploration of Orem.
