IoNT Session 1: Rat Infestations
General Summary
Month 5, Week 1, Year 928
Spleunking through the caverns beneath Gokkano Falls, the party discovered an ancient panel that opened into the central chamber of a dungeon dating back to the Old Myltevian Empire. With a dome-shaped interior and statues arranged around the room, a second panel in the center of the chamber was locked by a powerful arcane ward with no clear means of entry. So the party started exploring the halls and rooms surrunding the central chamber, first discovering a series of rooms in what appeared to be the servant's quarters. The servants were long-gone, strange faceless creatures haunting the rooms with a black oily mixture dripping from their bodies. The party agreed that it was best to leave these 'rats' in their rooms and continued with their exploration. Surprisingly many of the chambers were unlocked and filled to the brim with untold riches. The party quickly deduced that this dungeon used to be a laboratory for the archmage Sviatoslav the Diviner, and that they might be the first people to step food inside its halls in over four millennia. They discovered a libary full of books written in a variety of languages along with an observatory containing lenses of all shapes and sizes, some of which allowed the viewer to peek into different planes of existence. Sammako tried to carry away as many books as he could, while in a fit of inspiration Kite started crafting poems about Sviatoslav's dungeon. After exploring all the rooms the arcane ward locking the central chamber's panel remained intact, but the party had a hunch that a magic item from each of the three major chambers would disable the ward and allow for futher exploration. The library's magic item was easy to discover, but the other two required some extra effort (especially once a couple of rats managed to escape their room and attack Kite and Cressedia). But just as the party was about to unlock the ward, a group of Handgun agents appeared in the central chamber seeking to retrieve some magic items of their own. Keys raced around to one side of the dungeon to outflank the thieves, meanwhile Cressedia tried to broker a deal with them so that they could all explore what was hidden beneath the panel together...
