KKO Session 4: Port of Call
General Summary
9/3/875
- Party traveled west through the mountains to coastal port city of Suika
- Lee, head of Paper Dragon’s smuggling ring, has his HQ there
- Had to pass through dragonborn kingdom of Melusine to get there
- Some dragonborns stop wagon to see if there have any dragonborns with them
- Tevlin convinces them there isn’t, saves Balasar from military draft
- Bucephalus plays one of the most beautiful songs party has ever heard
- Suika is full of ships and sailors from all over Pescat and Liat
- They have to go find a lead on where to find Lee
- Stop by a bar to get intel, they’re not that successful
- Balasar finds a couple dragonborns, but they’re suspicious of him
- Eventually they head to town square, find a merchant complaining about smuggling
- He mentions Lee and his private vessel hanging out at edge of sea
- Only stops at port once every day
- If they help him out and deal with Lee they’ll get rewarded!
- So the long stakeout begins
- They find a good view of Suika’s harbor, sees Lee’s ship on the horizon
- It’s a three-level deal with guards patrolling it constantly
- When it stops at port, an orc and half-elf drop off some boxes onboard
- They also take a few crates with them when they leave
- Bucephalus tracks them to warehouse where they drop off crates
- The orc and half-elf stop at tavern afterwards
- So Bucephalus casts amulet of Rexfur and sneaks inside warehouse
- He finds general boat supplies in crates, but he also finds letters!
- Takes them to rest of party, they’re coded about Paper Dragons plans
- They’re planning a big shipment of weapons and relics coming in a week
- They also find an origami rhino with the party’s names on it
- The next day they stop the orc and half-elf at a bar, intimidate them a lot
- Balasar is so intimidating that they give up uniforms immediately
- Orc knocks half-elf out, gets Balasar to knock him out to make it look like fight
- They steal the uniforms, prepare to board Lee’s ship next day
- The clothes don’t fit great, but Balasar and Bucephalus disguise themselves to board ship
- Guppy dives into water by docks, will meet them at ship
- The two of them get suspicious looks, but they manage to get onboard
- They find a small crate with some letters and plans inside
- Valuable info about a shipment coming in next week
- Lots of weapons and supplies, some kind of ancient relic called a ‘Ream’
- The party goes over to Lee’s quarters to interrogate him
- They basically barge right in and stab him with a spear
- The ship catches on fire during the battle, tons of guards show up
- Balasar escapes by tossing Bucephalus through a window
- Guppy waiting in a boat made of water, helps them escape
- They tell the dwarf merchant about eliminating Lee and smugglers, he’s impressed
- He promises to give them good reward when they leave town
- Meanwhile the party decides to tie up loose ends
- Some of survivors from ship are being tended for at Ageless One temple
- They convince the priestesses to let them go upstairs to wounded wing
- On the building's fourth level they find the ship's captain with lots of burns
- Party tries interrogating him, but when he won’t budge Bucephalus slits his throat
- A Paper Dragon assassin shows up, Balasar slices him in half
- The priestesses show up, shocked that the party's committing murder in the temple
- But the party’s fast, and they escape building no problem
- That night they head over to Tevlin’s room, tell him about day’s events
- First, good job on killing Lee and getting info about shipment
- BUT, they pissed off Pescat’s most powerful deity tonight
- They’re going have to do a lot of prayers or something to atone
- Bucephalus goes to bathroom to wash up, runs into Rexfur
- The god has been noticing Bucephalus using his amulet
- He’ll let him keep using it, so long as he becomes a follower of Rexfur
- Spread the word, steal stuff, maybe build a temple or two
