Rumbling Through the Wilderness
General Summary
Fall 918 - Summer 919
The late 910's were a productive time for the members of the Gilded Hecat Guild, a time that the group has struggled to emulate in recent years. While members of the GHG's Fortunate Five were fighting ghosts and demons, the Guild's Redscale Rumblers were dealing with creatures from the feywild and Underdark. In the fall of the 918 they took a contract in Broggfey to investigate a series of disapperances near the Fey Plains. Phaedra joined them on their mission, having left behind the FF under less than fortunate circumstances but still eager to spread the word of her new patron Seevo. The group found a tipsy fairy named Paddy who agreed to transport the party to the feywild, stealing Fax's infinite flask in the process. They found abandoned villages and hostile fey guards seeking to charm any creatures who refused to recognize the Queen of Lost Things' authority. After helping a band of meenlocks escape the guards the party obtained directions to the Queen's palace located in the heart of the Fey Plains. They disguised themselves as invited guests of the Queen, notcing that many of the servants were orcs kidnapped from Broggfey and enslaved by the Queen's fey charms. Eventually the Queen of Lost Things herself made her entrance, ready to accept the group's subservience to her rule. As a lost orphan of the Elflands she had stumbled into the feywild several centuries ago, shaping order from the chaos to transform it into the tyrannical empire she remembered from home. The Rumblers politely declined this offer, barely managing to escape the palace as the guards swarmed them from all sides. Tatyan gave herself up to give the rest of the party an opportunity to escape, giving them time to regroup and plan a counteroffensive against the Queen's forces. They brokered an alliance with the local meenlocks, combining their forces to storm the palace and overthrow the Queen once and for all. There was also discussion of employing the services of the local hag Auntie Pleasance, but Night in the Woods was reluctant to get involved with such ancient fey forces. The raid proved a resounding success, the king of the meenlocks killing the Queen in a violent final showdown in the palace courtyard. No longer would the tyrannical memories of the Elflands corrupt the feywild, allowing older and more chaotic forces to fill the vacuum... A journey that felt like a couple weeks ended up being three months thanks to the time distortion of the Fey Plains, but after a couple weeks of downtime collecting new magic items the party was ready for another adventure. They decided to take a mission in Rakka's Underdark assisting with an excavation that had been interrupted by illithids and yuan-ti saboteurs. The Rakkan/Verschovian archeologists were studying an ancient temple dating back to the days of the Dragon God-Kings of the 1st Cycle, first discovered a couple decades ago when a new chasm opeened up in the Underdork near Zerbst. The adventurers managed to uncover the yuan-ti agents that were sabotaging the excavation, and after a couple days at the ruins they even managed to disarm many of the traps and puzzles locking the interior chambers of the building. In the heart of the temple they discovered the corpse of an ancient dragon, slowly mending itself together sinew by sinew and scale by scale, the Dragon God-King Calothosk himself. Legends of his death in one of the final conflicts of the 1st Cycle proved to be untrue, grievously wounded he had himself away for thousands of years to slowly regain his strength. He asked the party if it was time for the dragons to return and seize their rightful place as leaders of Ekal once more, but fearful of his power the Rumblers convinced him to keep resting a while longer. They did, however, offer up a couple of yuan-ti saboteurs for Calothosk to consume and in return he blessed them all with Epic Boons. The excavation ended not long after, the temple doors collapsing as Calothosk sealed himself away once more to recharge. The Rumblers never told the Rakkan officials about what they saw inside the temple, and the party disbanded after returning to Dhyrlonis. Despite the boons they'd received, the group still felt conflicted over the human sacrifices they'd performed and the secrets they'd kept from the people who hired them. Fax stayed in Dhyrlonis with Tatyan as she started to become more involved in Bahamut's politics, Night in the Woods went on solo missions to investigate the Six Hags of the Fish, Gislibot appeared sporadically at dive bars throughout Southern Pescat, and Mieszko continued spreading the word of Seevo throughout the land. Phaedra retired from the adventuring life and fully devoted herself to her spywork with THEM, volunteering for assignments in Anthep to harass her one-time adventuring partner Windred Ozlow.
