The Poisoned Woods, Pt. 2
General Summary
Month 1, Week 3, Year 936
Despite Ogawa suffering from the illness plaguing the forests, the party pressed on into the deepest interiors of the Koulan Forests to uncover the Old Myltevian they'd been tasked with finding. The spirit of the forest watched them with a suspcion but allowed them to unearth the ruins with some parting musings on the meaningless of short lives. Disabling all the traps in their way, the party made it to a spectacular antechamber honoring The Magician, the mythic founder of the Old Myltev empire who plucked arcane power from the void to bless Ekal with it. They made some rubbings of the murals and collected a handful of artifacts, including a black and white mask radiating powerful magic. With their work for Chusei University completed, the party knew they couldn't return to Sanjuro City without first dealing with the druid corrupting the Forests. They'd seen firsthand how deep the rot had seeped into the land, and they couldn't let her get any stronger. The group reunited with Nyana to confront the druid, marching several days east to the source of the corruption. In a small camp full of rot and decay, they found a well-dressed and sickly-looking woman named Cella Vivaldi responsible for all the suffering. An aged mercenary by the name of Radovan the Killer guarded her camp, ready to fight against the powerful adventurers. Spells rattled the air with devastating force, Cella tossing out lightning bolts and gale-force blizzards while Ha'Shoo unleashed waves of healing energy to engulf the party. Ogawa dueled with Radovan and Cella, dealing a devastating strike to the druid before she turned him into a rabbit. Radovan then turned his attention to the other adventurers while Cella summoned a fungal-infested deer to join the fight, slowly pinning the party against the undergrowth. A series of well-placed strikes managed to wear away at Radovan's fortitude, a final arrow from Nyana slaying the mercenary where he stood. Unfortunately Cella had time to return the favor, freezing Nyana with a wave of frostbitten magic. The fungal-infested deer gored Kono to death, and nobody was able to revive an unconscious Ha'shoo. Ogawa fled from the fight in rabbit form, unable to transform back into his yuan-ti form and continue the fight. When Ha'shoo regained consciousness he abandoned his old god Desna and embraced the entity that Cella served with her disease and decay. With nobody to oppose her, Cella's plague would spread to all corners of Pescaliat through the ports and riverways of Sardivelia to infect millions with her blight. Ogawa adopted Nyana's role as guardian, slowly gathering strength to defeat the druid for good.
