Casca
Casca is a large region encompassing the northeastern part of the country of Ahkna. It contains a coalition of multiple tribes and settlements of people, as well as many subset groups, that pertain a very similar way of life to each other.
Naming Traditions
Feminine names
Sanahk, Syhana, Noatam, Akhalante, Nasan
Masculine names
Sobakon, Syhana, Tayokhide, Adakon, Lykhadak
Family names
Family names were typically simply the name of the tribe one was from, if they had a name at all. After merging with other tribes to form Ahkna, however, their tribes were officially dissipated, and some took on their ancestors' name for a family name, whereas other kept their old tribes name, and some are simply "of Casca," or have none at all.
ex: A'Calsna, Na'Casca, Nasandahk
Other names
Names aren't typically gendered among Cascan tribes, as the tribes typically recognize multiple genders that cannot be told at birth. People call others by shortened versions of their names (ex: Syhana = Syha) as a sign of respect; calling someone by their full name asserts responsibility or dominance over them, and is most often used by parents to their children.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Cascan Ahknan (softer consonants, different ways of addressing people of different status), Common Ahknan
Shared customary codes and values
The natural world must not be disturbed more than we can help; a healer devotes themself to the welfare of others
Average technological level
Small towns and settlements, irrigated only in more heavily populated areas and farms, wells are a main source of water, most people bathe in lakes or rivers rather than their homes
Common Etiquette rules
Referring to someone by their shortened name unless asserting a sort of responsibility over them
Common Dress code
Covered chest and legs (shoulders as well but only among the conservative)
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
Like most places in Ahkna, to celebrate a birthday, a person gains a new earring until they can wear 16, signaling adulthood.
Funerary and Memorial customs
When a loved one dies, their body is burned, and the ashes are buried by the family or closest friends in a significant place of their life (ex: the seer Makia's ashes are buried by a small pool, where he learned most of his magic from his family).
Historical figures
Makia - a seer who helped to form Ahkna as a country, ascending his role of Cascan healer to a government consultant to the royal family at the time. He devoted much effort into the early war effort between Ahkna and Unyct and incorporated healing magic into the national military. He later married into the royal family through Talah, sister to Heth, who was the rorak at the time.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Long, black hair, dark eyes, a soft expression, soft facial features, graceful hands (applies mainly to healers)
Gender Ideals
There aren't many differences between genders in most Cascan tribes, only a few such as: Women manage a household, as well as deal with legal matters surrounding it,and pass on any knowledge of arts to their children. Men are expected to remain proud and defensive, especially when it comes to familial matters and their children, and know at least a few healing spells (which is brought about so that they have a role to help during a woman's period or childbirth).
Courtship Ideals
Partners are typically set up for compatibility tests by parents, but ultimately hold the power to deny that relationship. They spend time together and study each other's crafts.
Relationship Ideals
The ideal marriage age is 18 to 20, while the ideal relationship is one in which each partner knows the other wholly, that there are no secrets between the two people, and that they live in a harmonious manner.
Major organizations
The Socabon Military Base - an organization of the soldier-dominated town of Socabon, in which most of the townspeople are devoted to assisting soldiers who work at the fort right next to it.
