Historical Details
Background
The country of Ahkna discouraged any form of magic to be pursued outside of the government's strict parameters immediately after it's formation. It was a time of fear, war, and superstition, not of discoveries and advancement. And so, the government had no idea of the effects that magic can have on a human body. If left still and unused for too long, the magical energy can force its own movement, however contained inside a human body. This oftentimes causing severe joint pain in a person or even paralysis. Extracting the magic was a terrible idea as well; it led to a person being sapped of all their energy, as magic is something a human cannot fully live without. Extraction, a popular solution for magical lawbreakers, left many people unable to function as they had before. They became depressed, immobile, despondent, as a main source of their energy and life had come from their magic.
Dakinath, as the royal shanrak, leader of the people and communications, saw firsthand these effects, and tried to push for change within the government. He fought for lesser regulations and for more research into magic, but he was constantly denied by the rorak. So, he decided he would simply research on his own.
