Grand Judge

In Ekkirah, laws are different from kingdom to kingdom, but their juristictive systems all have one position in common. The grand judge is the highest rank one can achieve. Whenever a crime either could not be accurately resolved by lower instances or is on such a grand scale that it affected the entire kingdom, it is brought before the grand judge. In order to be eligible to apply for this position, one has to prove that they have siginificant experience when dealing with high profile cases, as well as show exceptional bravery as to not be intimidated by criminal organizations that might try to influence the outcome of a trial by sending threatening letters or blackmail.   Aside from these requirements, there are a few others, depending on the region. In the kingdom of red, only a member of the royal army can become grand judge, as it is believed that only a true warrior can judge other warriors. This also ensures loyalty to the crown and since trial by combat is still practiced there, only an experienced combatant would be able to ensure a fair fight.   In the Kingdom of Yoshi, the grand judge must be a member of the ethics commission, as this is a purely science focused kingdom, so most of the high profile crimes involve immoral research.   In the Kingdom of Tal, bribery is very common, as the the different merchants and craftsman guilds hold all the power. Because of this, it is required of the grand judge to not have any affiliation for any guild as well as the title holder having to publicise all of their financial transactions to ensure unimpededness.   In the Kingdom of Sajo, the grand judge is required to undergo intense illusion magic training, as to see through any spell the accused might use during trial.
