High Priestess Peti Dayvu
Born a daughter of poor farmers, Peti grow up in a harsh environment. Manual labour and little education filled her days. For her, this wasn't a fulfilling life. She wasn't content feeding the cattle, picking fruit and sewing clothing. Peti was always looking forward to the days her parents would take her to the big city to sell their wares. The colorful clothes, the stores, the bustling streets and most importantly, the priests. Promising a better life, less worries and a bright future, should she devote her life to the deities.
The little time she was allowed to roam around the city, the farmers daughter would always be drawn to the temple, praying and practicing the religious rituals.
Soon, her devotion caught the attention of priestess Rila. The clergywoman would take Peti under her wing, teaching her parts of the scripture whenever she would visit.
Hearing these stories of heroes, who changed the world for the better with the aid of the gods, and punishment for those who doubted the power of the patheon, only strenghened her faith.
Petis father however, did not approve of her interests. Deeming it a waste of time and a distraction from her work, he stopped taking her to the city. She was told to stay at home and care for the farm while they are away. Heartbroken, she spent many nights crying, cursing her father and his ways.
No longer able to bare her childs suffering, Petis mother one day ventured to the city under the guise of having to buy new tools for the farm.
She would return in the evening, tools in hand and, unbeknownst to her husband, carrying a small book underneath everything else she bought.
When her daughters farther was working on the farm the next day, her mother placed the book underneath her daughters bed.
Finding the book underneath her bed, Peti opened it and was greeted by a small passage of text written by Rila.
"You mother informed me of your situation. Pack your things and leave in the middle of the night, she will be waiting in front of your house. I will be near the temple. Show the city guards your book and tell them that you are a new acolythe who arrived late."
That fatefull night, Peti left her farm, saying a tearfull goodbye to her mother before apporaching the city. Showing the city guard the book, they let her through. She made her way to the temple where Rila greeted her. This is where her journey of becoming a priestess began.
In the following years, she would learn the prayers, rituals and scripture, until she eventually became a priestess. Showing faith and resolve, she quickyl became a respected member of the clergy, but one aspect of her religion always bothered her.
The scriptures spoke of bowing your head, and attoning to your sins, often through violent means such as flaggelation. She did not believe that this was truly what the gods wanted. Nothing in the holy books even came close to suggesting such a behavior but alas, she was powerless to change it. Nevertheless, she and a few acolythes that followed her way of thinking eventually established their own group, praying for forgiveness instead of trying to violently purge their sins.
When she was just 40 years old, in the middle of prayer, The Ascent changed everything. As the earth shook and the city was ripped apart into small island, she rushed to the altars, saving artifacts from being destroyed. In the chaos a lot of the other priests got killed by collapsing walls and falling ceilings. Petis group however remained untouched, neither her nor any of her followers even recieved a scratch from the incident.
After a few hours, as calmness overcame the world again, she and her followers, bewildered and freightened, walked out of their temple. Seeing the devastation, the dead gurads, townsfolk and priests alike, it became clear to her. This was the gods will, violence will be met by divine retribution, this must have been a punishment for their misguided ways. As she was the only remaining priest, she took charge, sworn to rebuild the temple and lead her people to a new, violence free life, to regain the gods favor.
During the rebuilding effort, she not only offered leadership but spiritual guidance, eventually being uplifted into the rank of high priestess. To this day, she still leads her people and is regarded as a prophet, continuing to explore new ways to appeal to the gods.
