Hunter
With The Ascent devastating the world, only very few landmasses survived taking to the skies. Most broke apart, turning into island, turning continents to archipelagos. Nature suffered as a result, leaving little room for forests, wild plains or jungles.
With this change, sustainability had become top priority in the settlements that formed or were rebuilt. Farming and taking only what one truly needed was the driver to outlive this horrific incident, at least for the groups that had no magical ability.
With these core values in place, it was quickly outlawed to hunt, as hunting might lead to extinction of any given species, deeming the profession of being a hunter illegal. Instead the population captured the beasts they came across to breed them. Slaughtering whenever meat was absolutely necessary ensured that while there was very little, it offered a constant stream of valuable food for the community.
Over time, what was once just a small group of captured wild animals grew into giant farms, allowing for more food to be distributed. While some islands reconsidered their ban at this point, most of them kept it in place. Firstly because the worlds behavior was uncertain. Nobody knew if the incident would be an isolated event or if more would follow, so a sustainable lifestyle offered saftey in these trying times.
Also, some religious communities feared that the Ascent was the wrath of the gods, punishing them for gluttony. Therefore, hunting wild beasts might lead to a second punishment. Having seen what Ekkirah was capable of, they feared that a second punishment would be unsurvivable. Not taking their chances, they prayed for the wellbeing of the animals in the afterlife before slaughtering them for their meat and skin.
The magical nations however, continued their ways, hunting freely. They could do so since the magic users they had amongst their population were capable of conjuring up food, sustaining their civilization that way.
