The great Seeker
Passed down through generations, the myth of the great Seeker was wide spread. It tells the tale of a being, surpassing even the most feared monsters. The creature would soar through the material plane, ever curious, seeking answers to questions incomprehensible by mere mortals. Along its journey, it would gather specimen on its skin and experiment. Facing these creatures off against each other, observing their behavior, studying their capabilities, until it could no longer gain new knowledge. Then, the great cycle would begin. The fortunate few who managed to dig deep or hide within the cavaties of the creatue would survive, while the rest would be violently purged by the creatures blustering breath to make room for new research. According to the legend, each cycle would take around 3500 years.
As with every folktale, some scholars seeked the truth. Digging through every record of every sentient species of the world, but were ultimately unsuccessfull. No record confirmed the existance of such a creature, but the legend appeared time and time again in every species early artwork and writing. Sometimes it was described as generous, sometimes are ferocious, but always as endlessly curious. Some civilizations worshipped the monster, hoping to get chosen to aid in its search, some feared it, terrified of being abducted, they built shrines and regularily offer sacrifices to appease it.
Apart from some cultist groups, who still worship the Seeker, the majority of the population ultimately dismissed it as an old folktale with no truth to it. Over time, fewer and fewer people even knew of the myth, but it lives on in some regions. No longer a legendary tale, it's now used to scare children, as they are told that the monster would come and get them, should they misbehave or oppose their parents.
