Bittergras

Bittergras is a small tuberous plant with long and thin leaves. The leaves often cause people to confuse this plant with Sauerleaves. Unfortunately, the leaves of the Bittergras are not edible.   Bittergras can grow in most soils, but does thrive in sour soils found in coniferous forests. It can grow with relative little light and sometimes can be even found inside caves.   The small roots are edible but rather bitter, unless it is boiled for a long time. It is possible to make flour out of the dried Bittergras roots. It is the basis for Fenorian Bitterbread
