Gemstone-based Artificery describes a long lost technique to use gemstones charged with magic in the creation process of weapons or tools.
Using certain gemstones with certain charges enables an artificier to controll the properties of the materials used in creating weapons or tools.
Additionally, it also makes it easier to imbue and persist certain magical effects and even spells into a product.
The descriptions about this technique also include the possibility to inlay gemstones into weapons and tools to enable the longlasting effects or to immensly increase certain attributes.
The process needs specialized apparatus and equipement, most of them found in the
Jewelstone Deeps and a lot of charged magic. Much knowledge existing today was found inscribed at the
Wall of Lost Knowledge and deciphered by
Gustav Federlauf.
There are some procedures that could not be replicated yet, as the necessary equipement apparently described on the wall have not yet been found in the ruins.
This technique has the disadvantage of a very high loss in energy and is only feasable when large sources of magic are available. However, the possible effects achieved are much stronger and mor eduarble then with most other methods.
Much of the used magical energy will dissipate into the surroundings. This effect does hold some danger, as it can cause chaotic reactions in the vicinity.
Creating Passive Effects
Using jewels during the creation process can influence the durability, hardness, flexibility and other attributes of the finished product. Some seem to even include the defense from certain magical types or protection from the elements as well as the conductivity of magical energy.
Creating Active Effects
Embedding jewels into tools can achieve effects that are definitely magical in nature and seem to come close to the use of complex spells.
Some seem to have a beneficial (or sometimes not beneficial) effect on the wielder - making them faster, stronger or more aware of their surroundings.
Others seem to have additional effects on things they interact with - be it an additional magical damage or slowing them down.
Some of these effects are intentionally benewficial, such as hardening the rock face when hitting them with a certain pic to prevent cave-ins or a glove that apparantly can speed up healing processes by a large factor.
Negative Side-effects of Creation Process
During the creation process, much energy gets dissipated into the surrroundings. These can cause random chaotic effects, if too much energy is set free in too much of a time frame.
The chaotic effects can cause dissiness, sickness or confusion on people around them. There have been also reports of sudden lightning strikes and odd temperature fluctuations. Some weird behaviors in gravitation have been witness as well and seems to have a connection to the floating rocks in
Flyrockcut.
