Raspberry Marmelade Incident

The Raspberry Marmelade Incident is the nickname for an unfortunate chain of events that led to a diplomatic incident escalating almost to a full-blown war between Caramiza and Perefitun.

The Inciting incident

During the preparation of a diplomatic ball in celebration of the Blessed Feast invitations where sent out asking for donations of regional food to be blessed and served during the feast. The ball was held by the household of Heinrich of Tungastatt and invitations included the delegate of Perefitun, Lord Sebastian of Fleystett.   Lord Sebastian of Fleystett sent a crate of Fleystettetn Raspberry Marmelade two weeks in advance. The Marmelade was of high quality, of a year known for a good harvest and certainly a regional specialty, completely adequate as a gift for such an occasion.   However, due to a mixup, all the marmalade was stashed in the winter's storage and none of it was blessed and presented during the feast. Fleystett took this as a direct affront against him and the nation of Perefitun. Unfortunately, the host Heinrich of Tungastatt was already in a bad mood due to a completely unrelated issue with the guest chambers and reacted rather poorly when confronted by Fleystett.   Fleystett left the ball early and the next day, the House of Tungastatt received a declaration of Conflict from House Fleystett.

The Skirmish

Both parties met with a contingent of 50 household soldiers each at the border of Caramiza and Perefitun in the northwest of Caramiza. The Skirmish lasted half a day and there was no decisive winner. Both Fleystett and Tungastatt were slightly injured during the battle and at least the loss of 5 soldiers in total were recorded. Due to their injuries, both parties declined to parley. Instead, rude letters with unacceptable terms were apparently exchanged, Flystett's letter was supposedly drenched in marmelade.

Escalation and Intervention

Asa direct aftermath of the skirmish and failed negotiations were the escalation to the national level. Diplomats from both Perefitun and Caramiza met in a rather hostile mood, but managed to keep up negotiations abut the incident for three days.   During the last day, when Fleystett made some particularly snarky comments, the Lady Regent Tadmilla of Bealuki slapped the diplomate in his face multiple times. The delegation was shaken, the Lady Regent remained fierce and as an immediate result the negotiations were led to a quick end.

The Duel

Negotiations agreed on a one on one duel between Fleystett and Tungastatt until the third cut. Tungastatt, who was injured at the leg, was at a clear disadvantage and lost the duel. He issued a formal apology to Fleystett as well as ten percent of their winter storages.

Aftermath

The relations between Fleystett and Perefitun remained chilled for several decades. This did leave to further conflict when the heir of Fleystett courted the youngest daughter of Tungastatt.   The Lady Regent became famous for her slap and the incident turned into a story of pride amongst the people of Caramiza.   With the payment of ten percent of the winter's storage, some glasses of the Fleystett Raspberry Marmelade returned back to Fleystett. Fortunately, this went unnoticed for years as this could certainly have caused another incident.
