Astetta
History
Astetta formed by a few settling families in 758. By 816 the village had 45 people, several homes and a temple. In the summer of 816 a sickness started, with the only resent outside contact a traveling trader. The sickness quickly spread, by the time the first person died half the village was experiencing symptoms. Unknown to them they were experiencing Northern Fever. The priest of the temple finally decided the best thing was to put all the sick in the temple. With over half the town either dead or inside the temple a night came when the remaining people must have got desperate. They came in the night, barring the door and lighting fire to the temple. As it burned a beam knock a hole into the back of the temple, allowing one person to escape.
Madeleine Calmette was 23 when she escaped the temple and discovered Debeo Caelestis and was healed by Raphael. She followed Raphael's guidance and waited a month, preparing a rudimentary place for herself to live, before returning to see what had become of her village. She discovered that the sickness was not stopped with the burning of the temple and the rest of the village succumbed to the fever. She buried the dead and returned to build what would be The Gate.
More than 2 decades after Madeleine created The Gate she had several unchosen orphans, now grown adults, who need a place outside The Gate to be their own people. She led them to her abandoned village, to rebuild as their own place for both the good of The Gate and for their livelihood outside of it. Now Astetta has 250 permanent residents, with many more Gate orphans and their families stopping through anytime they might have need to.
