Fae Courtship

Courtship in the Fae realms is foremost a hierarchy; dictating the rules concerning attraction, romance and sex amongst them. These rules are taught upon initiation after blood bonding, or upon reaching the proper age. It is expected of every Fae, no matter how lowly their station, to adhere strictly to these strictures. The hierarchy begins with absolute loyalty and allegiance to your mothers, followed by total subservience towards your elder siblings — then the protection of the younger siblings, until finally the bond with their own children — after which, you may reach out once more in friendship to those below us in rank, should they prove worthy. The system works well enough. Even children lacking any siblings of their own, may be adopted into the royal family as servants and concubines. Although they may not share the rank of pure-blooded sisters, they still retain the same rights and privileges as any true sister of the line; meaning that even they may become a queen one day, if they please the mother sufficiently. Yet children between a pure-blooded and half-blooded sister often go to one of the branch families instead; an opportunity to strengthen relations across our entire kingdom, a means of furthering our bloodlines without risk to our precious daughters' lives. After all, it would hardly do to sacrifice your future queens on account of some lustful whim.
