Abyrrus Te

The Nightmare Knights. Otherworlders. Death-dreamers. They have been called many things. If the far realms are populated by all things that must not be, then the Abyrrus surely represent all thoughts that should not be. They are madness incarnate.

Do they serve Nathrael? Did they cause his downfall? Do the events of Guildfall represent a victory over them, or a defeat? How can the answer be 'yes' to all these questions? Are we losing our minds, or joining theirs?

As incomprehensible as these beings seem to be, they are somewhat predictable in their chaos, for all things that are considered natural or normal are anathema to them and send them into a blind rage. They are not truly far-realm abominations, but actually demons, hailing from the region of the Abyss that looks out into the far realms and dares them to look back.

When an Abyrrus manifests in the material plane, it can take many forms, but prefers twisted variations of humanoid creatures, usually in heavy armor. Parts from goats and other horned creatures, cephalopods, bald birds, and toads are commonly blended with their roughly humanoid forms. They can also appear as animated full plate armor with no visible body underneath.

In battle, they prefer to simply charge at their opponents while daring them to do anything about it, for any who strike them are in turn struck to their minds with unreasoning horror and fear. But they can be cunning and deceptive with their magic. First they will make you fear them, then they make you love them, then they make you love what they do to you. And then you become one of them.
