Sleepless nights and silent cries

The party visited Dorn to find a very exhausted village who had all barely slept in over a week. Two of the villagers, a dwarf brother (Dagnal) and his sister (Bruni) had gone out searching for the source of the disturbance. The first night they returned, reporting back the direction of some chilling screams that were clearly the cause of everyone’s lack of sleep. The next night they did not return.

The party heard some accounts of a very chilling elvish couple by the names of Gaeleth and Ilyana who had passed through town a few nights before their disrupted sleep happened, and put together some overheard information to figure out where they had set off to.

The party followed these reports to a clearing, where they encountered 3 ghosts standing guard for a necromancer, Gaeleth, over the body of one of the dwarfs. They saw no sign Ilyana. Managing to quickly dispatch of the ghosts and do enough damage to Gaeleth to cause him to retreat, he cast dimension door and was gone. Bruni was miraculously still alive, and was healed enough to make her way back to town.

The adventurers then proceeded to the location the screams had been heard and did find Ilyana - but no longer as an elf. Gaeleth, jealous that her powers were quickly overtaking his own, had murdered her, and her spirit had remained behind as a Banshee. Two wights accompanied her, one of which had managed to drain the life from Dagnal who had also returned as a zombie.

Despite initially taking down two of the party with her Wail, the party recovered and managed to defeat Ilyana’s banshee form and her minions, and returned the body of Dagnal to his sister.

The settlers of Dorn were grateful to once again be able to sleep through the night, and there was no further sign of Gaeleth, but the party couldn’t forget that he is still out there somewhere…
