The Story of the Goose Girl

I guess I should start with an apology.

See, on this day, I used the members of the Guild to test something to see if what I feared had become reality… and yet maybe apologies aren’t in order. For just like the princess you all witnessed, you followed me blindly. Like a mouse walking right into the paws of a cat. But now you know, don’t trust the fey, not even me. Of course, what happened is only just the beginning, and if you have any hope to survive what is coming, then you will do well to listen to all I have to say.

The quest began with a door, planted in the middle of the forest to lure the curious. A door can lead to many things. This one led to a lie and a truth. What was false and what was real? I’ll leave that for you to decide. We emerged into a forest of circles. For no matter what direction we took, we were always led back to the beginning. Until something was uncovered. A locket, lost to the ripples of a creek. Strange, is it not? For a locket to hold such power over the forest? Not so. For that locket was always meant to be left. To take it out of its place was to break the story and for that, we had to face the new villain: Ourselves. Staring at our reflections, we were met with violence, and while some chose to hide, most faced the interloper until they were nothing but dust in the wind.

Venturing further, for the forest let us through, we were being led into a trap. Ahead were a trio of giant geese. That’s right, you heard right. Giant geese blocked our way. The locket, the geese and the tracks led us here. I knew where this was starting to lead.

A name. A curse. A lie. No one asked, but when the geese were killed and a human puppet dropped from the forest, I knew what we had been confronted with. It couldn’t be so. It wasn’t so. For Avelisa, the girl, the legend, the story, I saw her final memories, and knew she no longer breathed.

What game is starting? What comes next? This walk through the forest was nothing more than a test of skill. The next game won’t be so easy. The question is, will you follow me?
