Phallon's Guild report - 0.1.25 agf
A Prize Catch
“I had heard tales of a great fish that lived within Tanquary Lake, off the coast on Tarnhaven. A fish bigger than any I had ever seen before, one of legend to the townsfolk. As such it was only logical fo’ me to bring an expedition out to investigate. Now it was quite curious timing, as upon arriving it quickly became apparent tha’ somethin was amiss with the fish. Apparently it had been acting out of sorts, attacking anyone that ventured near it. My companions wanted to investigate such and sought out a few townsfolk to interview. They uncovered that a loner on the edge of town had brought prosperity with him some 30 years ago when he settled down here, allowing the herbalists to flourish, though he was quite a suspicious figure, always keepin to himself.
A bit of…gentle… persuasion led this man to give up that he had been a member of a cult and greatly regretted that life. He had tried to gather up relics of the cult so that they would ne’er see the light of day but had not been very successful. Only managing to find a single gem, which he had stored in a protected chest. Though he did mention someone else had come by inquirin’ after it recently…a small hooded figure?
Worryingly, when holding the box, my companions reported hearing a voice. Somethin’ mighty powerful, but they did not give me the opportunity to witness it for myself tragically.
Assuming that this hooded figure (and possibly the powerful voice??) had done something to the great fish, we headed out onto the lake where we were attacked. In the presence of the fish, the hermit seemed to become possessed and I was instructed to get the chest to shore while the…more combatively adept guild members fought the beast.
When they returned, my companions reported a gem embedded in the head of the fish which they managed to destroy, freeing it. We opened to chest to find the gem that was meant to be contained inside was missing. I’m guessin’ that the hooded figure stole the gem and planted it on the fish. Truly a great tragedy. I’m almost a little sad that they were able to free the fish instead of killing it. It would have made a mighty friend. Alas.
This incident stinks of the Ancient. I…I should probably be more careful in the future. If…if it truly is back then I…hm. No maybe I shouldn’t be putting this in writing. Uhh…Phallon out?”
