The Lantern Mother
All life is sacred, for every turn of the wheel is another chance for enlightenment.
The lantern mother is the goddess of hospitality, healing, and redemption. Most of her “temples” tend to be simple hotels and taverns, with one notable exception: they have extra rooms for the sick and needy and, under the sign of the establishment is a lantern.
The mothers temples tend to be neutral zones, giving healing and shelter freely to all (except those who attack the people seeking shelter/healing) these zones tend to be manned by an odd bunch of followers, because anyone who wishes to improve the lives of themselves and others can become a follower: so barkeeps and doctors will often work with ex-criminals and even demons and elder evils!
According to legend, St Livian Valiance walked into Hell to rescue a would-be redeemed devil. But when she found the devil, they were cursed with darkness and unable to find their way out, as the then-goddess of redemption saw no path to righteousness for a creature evil by nature. So Valiance gave her own lifeforce to power a lantern the devil used to find their way to Arcadia. In St Valiance's honor the life-goddess altered her form to become the Lantern Mother. The devil now stands as the lantern-mother's avatar, an archangel who rescues souls unjustly stolen by the lower planes and the first of three 'risen devils' in known history.
