Verdant Light's report - 0.6.29
As Jae’Kalan’s army surrounded Eal, the Verdant Light sent out an emergency quest to the guild desperate to get help. The Verdant Light had setup a new base in the Reed Sector, West Eal. While the Reed Sector held primarily farmers markets and more mundane commercial efforts, it quickly became an important part of Eal after the golden acorn was planted. The Reed Sector now accommodates warehouses filled with food and general rations, becoming the clean food distribution centre for the entire Empire; as one of the only areas in the Empire to be protected from the Blight, it became a critical part to the future of the land. The Verdant Light are concerned that when the army march through the Reed Sector and destroy everything in sight that many will starve.
Lachie , Lilly -Teegath Angelus, @Reagan - Azrael, @Molly - Nyra Nightflame, @Caitlyn - Thea Embersun, @Morvull Kimbatuul & Aramil Silverfrond gather at the guild and Varian offers to transport them using the Eal teleportation circle but the spell fails. Trying to think of other means of travelling quickly to Eal the group decide to fly; Nyra polymorphs Azrael into a Giant Eagle and Thea wild shapes both carrying two adventurers to the city while Aramil flies on his broomstick.
As the seven adventurers approached Eal they see numerous blue dragons swooping down over the city. Knowing that they’d be spotted Aramil used an invisibility spell on everyone, but it unfortunately didn’t work on Teegath and Price who were flying on Eagle Azrael. However, as a blue dragon spotted the two flying humanoids Azrael performed some impressive diving and managed to avoid the attack and land safely with the rest of the party.
Getting to the Reed Sector the group saw Athel, leader of the Verdant Light, arguing with a high-ranking guard of Eal – Captain Thomas. The guard, wearing immaculate armor, wanted to know how many people would be defending this area of the sector while Athel was trying to build barricades and prepare. The group asked if he’d be fighting and Captain Thomas replied that his job would be the overseeing the placement of guards and officers around the city. Thea taunted Thomas for a bit before Morvull intimidated the guard into agreeing to help. The guard left saying he’d be back.
Athel explained that it was only a matter of time before the undead army broke through and into the city. He said that their job was to protect the citizens, protect the warehouses and destroy as many undead and cultists as possible. Thanks to the dragons flying overhead they’d already lost 3 warehouses but there were still 8 that needed protection. And Varian agreed to teleport any rescued citizens to the Ethereal Tower if the group can get them to him at the Verdant Light base.
Suddenly a series of explosions echoed out around the city that seemed to slightly shake the earth amidst a series of screams. They were inside the city. Within seconds the Reed Sector was suddenly filled with over 30 enemies and 15 fleeing citizens as Blue Dragons swopped overhead with their lightning strikes. Key moments: Teegath flying over the battle out of range of most enemies and healing, Aramil’s Eldritch Blast blasting a hole through the chest of a wight causing a massive explosion, & Nyra’s Wall of Fire closing off an avenue so the undead wouldn’t surround them.
As the number of undead steadily dropped Captain Thomas arrived with a smug grin shouting that he was here to help and had brought back up. He whistled signalling an undead beholder to fly into the battle. He was a traitor and working with the cultists. Fortunately, before the beholder even got a turn, Azrael got a crit with his divine smite and took the beholder out in a blaze of radiant wrath.
Nearly everyone went down during the fight but thankfully no adventurers were permanently harmed in the making of such a heroic quest and were able to save 3 out of 15 citizens and protect the 8 warehouses. However, the building that they’d temporarily repurposed for as a first aid/clinic was set on fire by one of the cultists. Thankfully, the group were able to put it out saving the 9 people inside before the fire could do much damage.
During a lull in the fighting Varian offered to teleport the group back to the Etheral Tower as well but they all wanted to stay to help the city.
Shortly afterwards Jae’Kalan was defeated causing the remaining undead to crumble into dust and the cultists to disperse. Somehow, and against the odds, they’d won.
