Dragon Turtle
Dragon turtles are aquatic creatures that are related to dragons. They are considered among the most dangerous aquatic creatures in existence and are even worshiped by some.
Description
Dragon turtles are distantly related to dragons and have dragon blood. They appear as huge turtle-like creatures with a long tail and neck with large, taloned flippers. Their heads have a golden crest down the center.Scales
The scales of a dragon turtle are generally smooth, but overtime become more coarse until finally being molted. By that time the scales have lost much of their durability.Shell
The shell of a dragon turtle measures between 15 and 25 feet in diameter and is strong enough to leave it almost impossible to harm. The shells are streamlined with jagged protrusions. THe shell is often a shade of deep green, similar to the color of the ocean, with silver highlights running along the raised areas. This means that a surfacing dragon turtle is often mistaken for light reflecting on the water. Due to the shell's immense strength, shields made from dragon turtle shells are exceptionally tough and have resistance to heat or steam attacks. Their shells are also valued for use as book coveres, jewelry, spell components, furniture, or as a building material.Personality
Dragon turtles are aggressive and solitary creatures who will attack any ships and other dragon turtles that enter their territory. Like true dragons, dragon turtles are obsessed with gold and treasure. They often attack ships in order to loot the treasure. After sifting through the wreckage, the creatures will carry the valuables back to their lair in their mouths. Sailors wishing to pass through the territory of a dragon turtle find that the creatures are intelligent enough to accept bribes or tributes. Sometimes dragon turtles can even be bribed to fight for others, notably working with creatures such as sahuagin raiders or powerful marids. Some dragon turtles can even master powers of sorcery.Combat
When in combat, dragon turtles will use their massive bulk to slam into enemies. Dragon turtles are capable of capsizing even large vessels. Dragon turtles can also expel a blast of scalding steam from their mouths.Society
A dragon turtle guards a vast territory that can expand up to 50 square miles. Other dragon turtles are only permitted to enter the territory of another during mating season. Dragon turtles live in vast caves under the seafloor or hidden in coral reegs. These lairs are used to store their treasure hoards.Diet
Dragon turtles are carnivorous and will eat almost anything in order to satisfy their appetite, even other dragon turtles. f food is in particularly short supply, dragon turtles are known to hunt sea birds using their steam breath.Languages
Dragon turles generally speak thalassic, high draconic, and sometimes the common tongue of the nearby lands to their territory. Unlike most dragons, dragon turtles do not have their own racial language.Usages
High quality dragon turtle scales, those which have not been naturally molted, are highly valuable for the production of armor that is both durble and flexible.History
