Hosts & Carriers
Almost all living—or once living—creatures can carry this curse, but it does not spread from living creatures. Undead carrying this curse can pass it on whenever they inflict energy drain, replacing the lost energy with this disease. Due to this, those that carry this curse drain less energy from those who lack this curse. These undead never show signs of the curse, and are only carriers of it.
Strangely, the Fey seem to be immune to this disease, and by extension, gnomes are entirely unaffected by this.
Epidemiology
- This curse is not contagious, despite very closely resembling a disease.
- An undead creature carrying this curse is able to inflict others with the curse under certain circumstances.
Cultural Reception
- Many societies see those afflicted by this curse shunner and feared. Due to its similarities to horrible diseases and contagions, they are seen as bad omens and potential carriers of plague.
- The Cetandari people have tales telling that this curse is a punishment from their lost gods, and so judgement from them is worse than many other locations in Elaris.
- Some see this curse more as a test of faith, which is especially seen by the Botari people, who believe it is a punishment for swaying too far from their gods. Those who are afflicted are thus seen with more tolerance and sympathy rather than fear or hatred.
