The newly formed gnomes began to spread out and begun creating homes and settlements of their own in Faerie, splitting into three distinct races.

The gnomes mostly left their previous mountain home, no longer having the innate darkvision of their dwarvish progenitors, and set out found new lands. These gnomes split into three groups, with the two most prominent being named after the sun, set in an eternal state of either dawn of dusk. Without the sun moving, the gnomes could not decide on which it would soon be, and so the two groups split and settled different lands, eventually adapting different traits and becoming known as the dawn gnomes and the dusk gnomes. The third group of gnomes was one that kept far more of the stubborn attitude of the dwarves they originated from, and refused to leave their mountain homes despite the lack of sight. They dug deeper and deeper until even their strongest lanterns could not pierce the inky darkness, and pushed their bodies to the extreme. With the aid of the warping magic and developing far more of their innate magic, they eventually became able to see once again. Their skin turned dark to camouflage them in the deep and grew a rocky texture, eventually having them become the gnomes of the deep. The dawn gnomes spread out far and wide, being worried about the chaotic tendencies of the natural inhabitants of Faerie, while the dusk gnomes actively sought them out, befriending many of them.
