"Lord" Abel Darden
Councilor of Harbor Defense & Order Abel Darden (a.k.a. "The Pirate" "Blackmane")
Able “The Blackmane” Darden grew up learning the sea as a pirate. By his mid teens, he’d earned his moniker due to his mass of wild black hair and that he fought like a lion. His quick mind and uncanny way of reading the sea and sky made him successful by his early adulthood with no small amount of notoriety. The one quirk he had was a refusal to kill without need, disciplining his men if they disobeyed his order, and dropping his own longships for the crews of vessels he’d scuttled.
For nearly a decade he was a scourge of the ocean; and then, one day, all word and sight of he and his ship simply vanished. It was with some surprise when three ships, a galleon and two corvettes (the Blackmane’s Pride, Blackmane’s Claw and Blackmane’s Fang) sailed their way into Aelanir’s Harbor; past the sunken defenses designed to prevent just this sort of thing despite having never put to port here before. Without any aplomb, Darden disembarked, handed his colors to the then Master of the Keel, Lector Hailford, and took a knee requiring the presence of the elven woman he called ‘The Witch of the Climb’. Some still claim that day, Darden had bought his way into the city by turning over the wealth his vessels carried.
To this day none still know what was contained in the heavily bound, magically sealed, container of metal he turned over to Eryn with only the words, “Don’t open it here,” and never spoken of it again. He and his old crews served the Keel and Aelanir’s Climb faithfully, securing the sea lanes personally until Master Hailford died of age. And in the way of the pirates from which they’d been made, Darden, now holding at least two score of years, was duly elected as the new Master.
Oh and... don't call him "Lord" outside of the Council Chambers, if you place value in possessing an unbroken nose.
