The Laughing Drake
When arriving at Thordir port and heading uphill to the northern gate one comes upon the Laughing Drake Tavern and Inn. This tall purple building has a friendly if what neglected exterior. When open a weary seaman or passing merchant might be found in its comforts enjoying an evening on solid soil in good comfort.
Purpose / Function
Build in expectation of rapid growth of Thordir port, in order to provide additional resting places for travelers aside from the Amber cask the only other tavern in town. But later abandoned as the increase in traffic was not as great as expected.
Architecture
This three-story building is build up from a foundation of light grey stone bricks, this supports a wooden structure which makes up the upper two stories. The use of the deep purple Jackhanda wood gives a soft contrast between the wooden floors and the grey foundation. The roof is clad black shale plates which when wet with rain shimmer a soft blue in the sunlight.
The interior is mostly made of the same Jackhanda wood with birch accents giving the interior a warm feeling. The common room has a bar in opposite the main entrance to the left there is a small podium overlooked by a balcony. On the first floor rooms for lodging line the hallways and a sitting area overlooking the podium below. The third floor forms the private living quarters of the staff and storage for the bedding and the like.
In the celler, one can find a small still and brewing kettle, and a large storage space for ales wines and other beverages.
