Codex Mortem: Burial Rites of the Deceased

Burial Rites of the Deceased

The sacred and solemn rite of burial, imbued with tradition and venerable customs, was a revered testament to the passage of the soul from the earthly realm to the embrace of the eternal beyond. To commence this ancient ritual, when a soul departs this mortal coil, the body shall be attended with utmost care. The lifeless vessel must be washed and anointed with fragrant oils and herbs, a purification to usher the soul toward its celestial sojourn.   Thereafter, the departed's visage shall be adorned with symbols of piety and devotion, a testament of their faith and a plea to divine providence for benevolence in the realm beyond. Prayers, uttered with earnestness, beseech the Almighty to grace the departed soul with mercy and guidance.   With solemn hearts and somber demeanor, the mournful procession shall accompany the body to its final resting place. A cortege of mourners, clad in garments of humility, shall bear the departed to the hallowed ground chosen for their eternal slumber.   Once arrived at the sacred burial ground, the body shall be gently laid to rest within the earth's embrace. A final requiem of prayers shall ensue, accompanied by hymns sung with reverent devotion, filling the air with the resonance of lament and supplication.   As the first rays of the morrow's sun caress the horizon, the sacred act concludes with the earth being gently returned to cover the resting place. A mound, a sepulchral memorial, stands as a testament to the departed's journey to the great beyond.   And there, amidst the passage of time, the departed shall find their eternal repose, beneath the archaic epitaphs and the shadow of history, their memory to be enshrined in the annals of antiquity, as they rest in peace until the trumpet's call on the day of reckoning.
