Ironhold
Ironhold is an island city that was the home of Emperor Drakus Coaltongue, and served as the birthplace of his Acheron Empire. The city is located on a small island at the entrance of Half Moon Bay off The Skyfall, south of the Khaganhold of Ostalin.
The Imperial Palace is on a narrow peninsula on the west end of the city. At night it is lit by thousands of torches that make it seem as though it is afire.
Along the southern edge of the city runs the 500 foot tall Traitor's Cliff, upon which sat Traitor's Hold, former pirate stronghold and now Imperial Garrison. The fortress is reached by a switchback of wide stone steps known as Rampart Way leading from the city below. To the north the city is bounded by the Noble's Wall which runs in parallel to the Ridger hill.
Front Street in the harbour district is largely ancient warehouses interspersed with ramshackle taverns, inns, and tenement houses, all facing the piers. From there, a maze of dark and twisting narrow streets and alleys lead further into the city. The city's larger estates butted up against the cliff wall below Mock's Hold.
Ships docking in the harbour are subject to inspection by the city's Harbourmaster. The waters surrounding the piers are notorious for sharks and small leech-like eels.
Several blocks from the harbour is the Portal, a seemingly abandoned stone structure amidst an overgrown yard, which is studiously avoided by the local residents.
Outside the city, the road is lined with slums.
With only one shirt cold season, the city tends to get hot and stinking.
The city's residents are a mixed breed of human races as is common on the island.
City Watch
Law and order is maintained by the City Watch, which has a barracks near the Centre Docks and a heavily fortified armoury at the base of Rampart Way. The Watch is armed with pikes and use alarms to signal each other.Animals
The city was known for a breed of dog called the Ironhold ratter, which is bred for its fearless insanity.Maps
