Crusader's Gate

"The gate is a true testament to the human drive for survival in this horrible place."

Purpose / Function

The Crusader's gate is the main entrance into the city of Brier Glen. This impressive arch faces Westward and welcomes traders, merchants or travelers from the farmlands in the Great Valley.

Alterations

Within recent years due to the increase in monster activity within the city of Yharm, a variety of monstrous heads and claws have been presurved and pinned to the exterior of the arch. The locals take pride in their perseverance in these trying times and see this act as a way to defy the spreading corruption.

Architecture

This mighty arch is constructed out of solid stone blocks that where extracted directly from the very wall of Yharm. The stone is dark and worn, weathered from over a hundred years of use. The inner walls of the arch and the sections above the road are adorned with complex carvings of various political figures and heroes, including current Barron Reynold Hunt. These carvings are kept in repair and updated by the local stone masonary; The Stone Eagle.

History

The gate was originally constructed in 771 CA, when an army of foot soldiers under the command of King Suiguar and a band of 10 Paladins set siege to the walls, battling against a swarm of horrifying beasts that spread from the dreaded capital gates. After finding victory in battle the army used slaves to deconstruct a section of the wall and build a monument to the battle and all who died in the chaos. This group of heroes became known as The Crusaders and laid the groundwork for the First Hope settlement inside of Yharm.
