The Exiled Eight

A guild of ex-prisoners, outlaws and outcasts shunned from all respectable settlements of man. Once eight separate brigand and nomadic groups, these peoples have banded together stronger than before and look to live far outside the reaches of the king and prey only upon wealthy nobles and their enemies.

Structure

The Exiles sill function on a fundamentally similar structure as the day they formed together. The leadership is split among 8 separate bands or 'Rings' as they are called. Each ring has anelected leader and consists of around ten to fourteen members each. These ring leaders are chosen by the ring they command. A new leader is elected every two years, unless the current leader is killed in action. These elections take place on a night of the new moon, a symbol of fresh beginnings ans a tiding of luck. At these gatherings members may also reorganize the rings or endocrine new members into the fold. Contrary to popular speculation, each ring is not exclusive to the descendants of that clan. The members of the Exiled have all intermingled between groups, muddying bloodlines and and traditions. One would think having eight separate leaders and almost a hundred members would spell disbandment for any guild but the Exiles keep friendly by plotting out territories as to not infringe upon each others prospects. There is a code and expectation among all the rings, however, many traditions and guidelines are unique to each sect and seldom written in stone.

Public Agenda

While The Exiled Eight may seem like scope-less ruffians and petty thieves, their agendas have recently swung towards a more guild like, and more publicly acceptable leaning. This clan of mercenary vagabonds are by no means good willed people, but they try to keep their targets in site and common folk out of their way. They work honestly for good coin and can offer competent sword arms for those interested as well as personal endeavors concerning the local establishment. Each ring obeys their leader to a fault and will often carry out their own agendas regardless of the other rings. While each ring operates independently from one another they all share common rules:
  • The Rings of Eight Shall Never be Sundered
  • No Innocent or Penniless Common Man Shall be Infringed Upon
  • No Ring Shall Pit Themselves against Thy Brother Rings in the Field
  • Conflict Between Rings is to be Settled in Fair Combat
Beyond these tenets the Exiled Eight keep to themselves, seldom looking for public recognition. The Exiles keep their personal beliefs and goals before notoriety and appeal. They very rarely accept new members into their ranks and those who are must be exiles in some way themselves, may it be from the king, another guild or just society in general. Religion, race or creed have no value to them and members are free to worship whoever and believe whatever they want. As long as their commitment to their brothers and the stability of their ring comes first.

History

Founded far into the reclamation of New Rodor that started around 825 CA, the Exiles began as eight separate and struggling bands. These individuals were convicts, brigands and mercenary companies that gained a sour reputation under the king. They were each called out and hunted down, being exiled to New Rodor or executed for their crimes. Using the vast reaches of uninhabited land across New Rodor these groups robbed from settlers, warred for money and stole from the king. In those days their numbers dwindled as they fought against one another or died of exposure in the untamed, harsh lands. During the latest reclamation resurgence in New Rodor each clan of the Exiled eight saw an opportunity to make a real name from themselves. A truce against eachother was struck, and eventually this trust forged an alliance, banding them all together under one banner. Then with enough numbers and an influx of rich targets in the area the Exiled Eight took an oath to never harm or rob the downtrodden, poor or undeserving, swearing themselves under a new cause; To seek revenge on those who exiled them in the first place.
