Zegan Sheep (/zɛgʊn/)

The Zegan Sheep is a breed of domestic sheep originating from the Zegan region of Ashmyka. These sheep are large, short-legged, stocky, and horned in appearance. They are used to produce meat, milk, and wool. Zegan sheep are adapted to cold weather and are prone to overheating in warmer environments. These sheep are almost exclusively found in a white coloration, with white wool, faces and legs. Both sexes of Zegan sheep grow horns upon maturity, although males tend to have curlier horns than the females.

Dairy

Zegan sheep produce a milk high in butterfat content. A single ewe can produce up to two liters of milk a day over the course of a 230- to 270-day lactation period. Most ewes will produce around 1.75 liters of milk a day. Cheese made from the milk of Zegan sheep is in high demand throughout Eldnor, as the milk imparts a unique and desirable nuttiness to cheeses.

Meat

The meat of a Zegan sheep tends to be succulent, lean, and mild. They are quick to put on meat, obtaining a weight enough for slaughter after only ten months of pasture. Despite the Zegan's good meat quality, it is rare on tables in the cities of Ashmyka. Almost no Zegan meat is exported from Ashmyka, and what is exported typically is in the form of dried and salted strips.

Wool

Zegan fleeces are long and double-coated, with a long, waterproof outer coat and a warm, soft inner coat. Most Zegan wool is hand-spun with both fiber types held together to make a warm, soft yarn that is water resistant. This yarn can be spun fine enough to make thin socks, but no thinner.
