The Iron Pact (thuh EYE-urn pakt)

In the storied past of Thrymdal, before the rise of the great dwarf clans that now govern the kingdom, there existed a legendary alliance known as The Iron Pact. Forged during a tumultuous era when the dwarf realms were fragmented and under constant threat from marauding giants and hostile races, The Iron Pact was a coalition of the most powerful dwarf lords of the age, each ruling over their respective holdfasts within the rugged mountains.   The Iron Pact was not merely a military alliance but a profound commitment to mutual defense and the sharing of knowledge and resources. Its founding is marked by the legendary Gathering of Iron, where leaders met deep within the Iron Hall—a massive cavern lit by ever-burning forges and echoing with the relentless clang of hammer on anvil. Here, under the watchful gaze of the statue of Moradin, the dwarven god of creation, each lord hammered a single iron nail into a great iron shield, symbolizing their unity and shared strength.   Led by the venerable High Lord Durik Hammerfall, The Iron Pact was instrumental in the development of the intricate network of tunnels and fortifications that would later become the backbone of Thrymdal's defenses. Under its auspices, the dwarves achieved marvels of engineering and craftsmanship, elevating their civilization to heights previously unimaginable.   The Iron Pact also established the first Great Forge Councils, gatherings where master smiths and artisans from different holds came together to exchange techniques and ideas. These councils laid the groundwork for what would become Thrymdal's renowned guilds, which continue to preserve and advance dwarven craftsmanship to this day.   Culturally, The Iron Pact instilled a deep sense of pride and unity among the dwarves, fostering a culture that valued honor, loyalty, and the collective welfare of all. The laws and agreements forged during this time still influence the legal and ethical codes of Thrymdal, and stories of the Pact's deeds and heroes are a staple of dwarf lore, told and retold around forge fires and in the halls of kings.   Though The Iron Pact eventually dissolved as the individual dwarf kingdoms coalesced into the singular realm of Thrymdal, its legacy endures. It is remembered as a golden era of unity and strength, a time when dwarves truly became masters of iron and stone, securing their place as one of the most formidable peoples in all of Eldoria.
