Playing a TTRPG

The World of Eldoria is a tabletop roleplaying game or "TTRPG," where players create characters / Player Characters (PCs) and collaborate together to tell a unique story. These stories can take place over a single session of play, often referred to as a "One-Shot," or act as an episode or quest in a larger overarching story referred to as a "Campaign."

The Game Master

In order to play, one player will need to be selected as the Game Master / "GM;" a narrator of sorts, whose job is to facilitate play by determining the difficulty of challenges / "DCs," control non-playable characters / "NPCs" and provide continuity to the story by crafting the overall narrative and world in which the players will explore. Who or what is the main threat to the group? What is the central theme or plot? These are just a few questions that the GM will have to ponder in order to provide an immersive experience for all of the players. Typically a GM will incorporate elements of each character's backstory and weave those story elements into the larger plot which forms the backbone of the campaign, and acts as a guide for the GM to tell a consistent story.

Okay, we've selected a GM, now what?

Once you have selected a GM, they can review the GM Basics chapter provided on the homepage for a list of references that will help them in running The World of Eldoria. Keep in mind that the creative freedom allowed to your GM means that no two campaigns will ever be the same, even running a pre-written adventure will have players making new choices as they go through, often with new characters and a different toolset for each party. This provides an immense level of replayability for even what would be considered fairly straightforward and more beginner-oriented quests/campaigns.

Something to keep in mind

Keep in mind that GMs are players too, and that they are there to enjoy the story just as well as the other players, and you should respect the effort that is required of the GM in order to facilitate play.

Now that you have finished this brief overview, continue to have a look at some of the tools you will need, as well as the campaign setting of "Eldoria," if that is the setting your GM has planned to run, this website is dedicated to all of the information you will need in order to do so, but feel free to use your own setting and just the rules system if that's what your GM prefers.

Note: The rules system has been built with a focus on medieval fantasy, incorporating some steampunk elements such as advanced mechanical creations aided with the use of magic, and some wizards have managed to create some devices that would appear to function similar to electronics, but that these devices are not as common as they would be in the modern world, and that vehicles such as blimps or airships are only available in the largest of developed cities.
