Kylvar's Black Blade (Kill-var's Black Blade)
Kylvar's Black Blade is a macuahuitl of blackened wood, lined with shards of pristine obsidian with no sheen. It is said that any who try to wield this weapon are cursed by the ancient Nyvians who once lived where Iivala now stands.
History
Kylvar's Black Blade was discovered in the stone temples of Iivala, clutched in the hands of a warrior statue that at the time of translation served as a guardian to the sarcophagus of a princess who died in battle. The blade was removed from the statues hands and taken back to be studied. Any who handled the blade reported hearing voices and feeling strange bouts of emotion, such as intense anger and confusion.
These reports continued on for years, the blade changed hands time and time again until coming to rest in an undisclosed noble's collection. It is said that when cleaning the blade, his man servant took on a far away look in his eye and slew everyone he came across until the servant was in turn killed by the noble's son. The son picked up the blade and for a moment took on the same far away look in his eye before he came back to himself. The blade was stored away and lost with time
From the recounting of the noble's son, the blade belonged to the warrior Kylvar, who slayed the young daughter of the tlatoani. He was captured and executed with his own macuahuitl, which turned black with his blood. A statue was created of him and the blade seated in his hands to stand guard over his corpse as they denied him passage to the afterlife. The blade holds the trapped soul of Kylvar.
