The Lost Correspondence of Draclau Vespin (Drah-Claw Vez-pin)
These lost correspondences were found in the possession of a nomadic Lyon tribe in the plains of Gyrmania. While old and worn, they are still legible and able to be handled, a factor attributed to the care put into their storage and safe keeping by the tribe. They are a well loved story of how the tribe fanned the flames of war by breaking a man's ego. These letters are still read around the camp fire on perfect nights.
Unfortunately for the author, Draclau Vesbin, Aka The Beast King, the letters were reproduced by the resistance factions and spread through the continent as a joke.
Purpose
The first letter originated from Draclau Vesbin of Rovana during the War of the Beast, intended for Princess Peony Ableford in secret. The letter details the events of the war, the Beast King's intent to unite the continent against foreign invaders, and ultimately proposed a marriage between Peony and one of Draclau's loyal heirs to avert a war between the growing empire and Gyrmania. His blackmail, however, was intercepted by the nomadic Lyon tribe on their migration path.
Out of curiosity, the chief forced the messenger to read the letter under threat of being eaten. One of the lionesses saw an opportunity for entertainment with the letter and threatened the messenger to write a response they dictated or, once again, face becoming dinner. The messenger dutifully wrote the response they dictated and convinced the Lyons he needed to be seen in Gyrmania to make it convincing. While recovering, he secured materials needed to continue the farce and make duplicates for the Lyons.
The response consisted of a letter full of insults, including one directed at Draclau along the lines of needing a big country to compensate for something he fell short on. Draclau, enraged at the response, became more overt in his threats to the kingdom if the princess did not comply. The fake responses from the princess continued to egg him on until the man sent a final response to the Queen Regent of the country, once again intercepted by the Lyons, declaring a full out war. The response he received in return was a rather grotesque caricature of Draclau's miniscule manhood mounted over a fire place and his skin laid upon the floor as a rug.
