The Drink of Passage
A massive party to celebrate young dwarves is the start of their first apprenticeship and joining their clan. The Kingdom of Thur Malduhr hosts this festival twice a year. the two festivals happen at the beginning of spring and fall. All Dwarves that turn 24 years of age, since the last festival, are gathered up and meet with their parents and a representative from all the clans. the Dwarves may invite any and all to these festivities to help in the celebration.
The Nights festivities start off with food, drinks, and lots of dancing. After about two hours, the party will turn to the main event. The main event is called The trial of Gol. The Trial of Gol is an event where the young dwarves are given the challenge to test their ability to make a good ale.
Two months before this event all of the participants are gathered and given a barrel. after receiving the barrels they are given instructions on how to make ale. the participants can make any kind of ale they wish but the rules state that it's got to have to put their own twist on it. Now at the party, the ale is presented to a committee of judges, and they chose those that pass or fail.
If they fail the test their parents and the clan representatives will decide if they stay in their parents' clans or be given to the army. Unless the dwarf has acceptable talent, they are usually sent to be trained for the army.
If they pass the drink test they are given the right to choose to join any clan but the royal clan. If they choose to stay in their family clan, the dwarf will become a full-fledged member and be welcomed with open arms. If the dwarf picks a different clan than their own, then they will be put in that clan temporarily until the dwarf passes their apprenticeship. Then it will be decided if the dwarf will become a full member. If the dwarf does not meet their expectations then they will be kicked out of their new clan and will join the army.
Within this trial is also the Contest for the best-brewed Ale of the season. The winner will be marked as the best drink and the recipe will be given to the brewing masters and salesman to start selling for the next season. The winner will make 20% of sales for the next year. Giving them a good start on their future. The extra money is also a great incentive for the ones who don't wish to leave their clan to make some good ale, and not mediocre.
