Elemage (Ell-luh-mayje)

The Elemages (With subcategories Elemals and Elemerges) are a race of humans who possess magical abilities, with the powers ranging across 15 different 'elements', they were created by Mellvana and Unbienna.

Naming Traditions

Family names

At birth, the baby is given a two-syllable last name (inherited directly from their parents, like ours). They are known only by that name for the first few weeks of life. The last name is usually a word to do with their element in one of the seven languages of the ancient Elemage tribes (Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Maori or Corsican) of the mage's heritage, for example, a Healing mage with Dutch ancestry might have the last name Helend (Helend is Dutch for medic) or a Ice mage with Corsican ancestry might have the last name Fretu (Fretu is Corsican for cold).

Other names

All babies are assigned a two-syllable first name in a month or younger, which is chosen by their parents or guardians. The reason that this happens is because, when two Elemages become an Elemerge, their names combine into one (for example, Joseph + Hayden = Jayden or Hayseph)

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

English (Primary) French (Secondary) Spanish (Secondary) Italian (Secondary) Portuguese (Secondary) Dutch (Secondary) Maori (Tertiary) Corsican (Tertiary)

Culture and cultural heritage

The 7 ancient tribes of the Magian world are well known and most surnames stem off of these.   One difference they have compared to us is that males and females are generally the same size/height.

Shared customary codes and values

Elemages have the same levels of sympathy and intelligence as we do. However, they have different ideals of courage, as there is more demands for courage with all of the monsters.

Average technological level

Architecturally, Elemages have the technological levels of the 19th or 20th century. However, electronically, they have the power of the 21st century. Medieval and 18th century attire is strangely common.

Common Etiquette rules

Elemages have swear words of their own, but they still use many of ours. These are rude and offensive for formal speech.

Common Dress code

It's common, at formal events like weddings, funerals and graduations, to wear the signified colours of your element.

Art & Architecture

Using the power of the elements, some artists have created some amazing looking and wise masterpieces.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Many rites of passage, ceremonies and parties take place, many the same as ours. Naming ceremonies, trials of power, and extreme religious dedication set them apart.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

Rituals are held once a month in most settlements to help new parents with choosing names, known usually as the Third Behest.

Coming of Age Rites

Every Earth mage in Asia is required to go through the Boulder Trials when they turn 18, a rite of passage that will involve strength, smarts, powers, and struggle. Four universities exist around the world, each representing an element (Water, Fire, Brain, and Body) and specializing in that element, though they do accept students from other elements.

Common Taboos

It was once thought to be taboo to say Mellvana, Unbienna, or Angeldios' pronouns without capitalizing them.

Historical figures

The Gods and Goddesses of the Magian world are heavily idolized, especially because Angeldios has a physical form. The religious spilt is mainly people who only worship Mellvana or only worship Unbienna.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Since they don't live in quite a modern-seeming world as we do (despite having modern technology), Elemages, when making an outfit, focus less on beauty and more on function. The outfits can still be perfectly crafted, but style isn't their number one purpose. Makeup is used less, but by all demographics.

Gender Ideals

The Elemages are (generally) more supportive of nonbinary identities and other genders, making more people come out to live their true selves. The same (generally) applies for queer people. Gender stereotypes are not enforced heavily, however, they still affect many people, and for both of these it still depends on where you live.

Courtship Ideals

Being just a race of humans with special powers, Elemages develop crushes, ask on dates, and fall in love the same way other races do.

Relationship Ideals

There are more open same-sex couples in their world, as it's a little more accepted in that society. Marriages are a lot stricter, however, as you cannot marry someone if you haven't been together for over 3 years.

Major organizations

Every continent has a government, the oceans have a single government, the planets before Earth have a single government, and the planets after Earth have a single government. Many criminal organizations exist, too: Pirates, Terrorists, Cults, etc.
