The War of the Gods

The day that the gods fell

The War of the Gods is a myth that is rooted in almost every culture and religion on the planet in some shape or form. Even cultures from opposite sides of the planet seem to have some adaptation of it, which hints to it being a true event. It forms a key part of the origin story of Supradia, and explains the death of the gods, Kineva being the only survivor.

Summary

In most interpretations, the war began after the gods Ersola, Saeri and Edreni disagreed with the way that Vada, Loara, and Cortis were treating the sentient creatures that had just been created.
At the time, the world was largely split into two. There was the utopia created by Ersola, Edreni, and Saeri, in which mortals and gods did incredibe feats and built incredible things together. But there was also the lands made by Vada, Cortis, and Loara, in which the mortals toiled to increase the gods' power.
Vada, Loara and Cortis considered mortals to be pointless and only useful as slaves, creating the demons to keep them in place. Ersola, Saeri and Edreni had created the creatures to be happy. Each disagreed with the way the other side was treated.
They argued about this until it broke out into fighting. Meanwhile, Eric Karlson, a human, rallied the oppressed people to rise up against the demons that kept them prisoner. This was the War of the Gods. However, the Shadrak fled in terror using portal-creating magic that had been created in secret while under oppression. This travel was powered by the souls of the demons that had been killed. Nevertheless, the rest of them were victorious.
Unfortunately, Saeri, Edreni, and Ersola were dead. So were Vada, Loara and Cortis. The earth was charred. Kineva decided to rebuild the world. He reintroduced the different creatures, the Orcs at Tekam, the Elves at Syndal, and the Humans at the Great Continent.

Historical Basis

The war was very real, although the stance that the Shadrak took was greatly demonized by other cultures. In fact, they fled because they were suffering heavy casualties from the war and left in fear of extinction, rather than cowardice. This has led to much discrimination towards the Shadrak, especially by the people of Eseris. Furthermore, Saeri, the god of justice, was on the side of Vada, and Loara, the god of debauchery, was on the side of Ersola.

Spread

The myth is widely known and even has a public holiday around it in Eseris.

Variations & Mutation

It is often disputed which gods were on which side. It is commonly agreed that Ersola and Edreni were on the side of the humans and that Vedredi took a neutral stance. The orcs at Syndal believe that it was Ersola, Loara and Edreni on the human's side, and Vada, Cortis and Saeri on the other side, which is correct.   There are also variations of the myth which even extend beyond the gods used in the original, such as Rimfall or the Abandonment of the People.

Cultural Reception

The myth usually takes at least some importance in most cultures, at least in some form. It tends to be of greater importance in nations that practise Supradia, as the original form of the myth references their gods.

Eric Karlson

Eric Karlson was a human of Kelbrikan origin. At the time, the Kelbrike were on the southern side of the world, where people toiled endlessly. He had managed to escape over the border without the gods noticing. Here, he made an audience with Ersola, the two agreeing to go to war with the gods of the southern side. He returned, and while the gods were fighting, rallied the mortals of the northern and southern sides alike, fighting off the demons.
