Taiah

Taiah

Born to a pair of adventuring halfling that had taken care of her for the first year of her life, Taiah was mercilessly made an orphan by a chance encounter her parents had with a chromatic dragon. They were a nomadic type and didn't have anything in the way of savings so when they passed and the dragon took their bodies and belongings away... Taiah was left with nothing. Raised in an orphanage until one fateful day when several children had to be kicked out of the orphanage it was chosen by chance, Taiah became homeless. A Mere Urchin. She begged on the streets and tried to buy food without knowing the worth of money until one day she met a fellow kid and they taught her how to live on the streets... she immediately noticed that the money she got from begging went a lot farther when she could read prices and value coins.   Taiah lived like that for nearly 4 years, going to the library every day to read and learn, and eventually was old and big enough to do the most basic of labour in a halfling society and managed to get a job as a waitress in a tavern that catered to travelers. It wasn't the nicest place to work but her boss paid her fairly and her co-workers were kind to her and sympathetic to the life she lived. For 5 years she worked and spent money without thinking and lived the life she wanted to live. However she realized eventually that she needed to make plans for the future and prepare. She began to save up money and she worked for another 6 months before a traveling old monk came in with a group of what could only be adventurers and they were ranting about his skill in combat. To which Taiah questioned what kind of halfling could be that amazing... So she talked with him. She listened to his wise words and kind demeanor and listened to the recollections from his companions. There was no variance. Everything lined up and Taiah wanted to be strong enough to earn her way out of a simple barmaids life or at least defend herself. and he agreed.   For the next 2 years she trained with that monk... and found out her reading was helpful! Being a monk is far more studious than she initially thought. She trained her weak body every morning and read till late at night by candlelight. She slept only as much as she needed to and worked the rest of the time to be able to eat and live. However near the end of the 2 years she had a revelation. Be the change you want to see in the world. Thus Taiah quit her training as she was strong enough to hunt animals with her bare hands already... and she opened up an orphanage. She had always had a knot in her heart about not contributing properly in a way to those who needed it like she did.   Taiah sunk every coin she could earn on that Orphanage. She hunted for meat for the children so they could grow strong while selling the furs and worked odd jobs everywhere else to earn anything else they needed and she took in as many children as she could afford, even sacrificing her own accommodations in exchange for more food for more children and more beds. She lived like this for almost 23 years before finally finding a companion. Someone who shared her love helping others... and was wealthy! They offered to donate an amount equal to whatever I could donate to the children and would manage the funds on my behalf so I could focus on other things. After a few months of observing everything working smoothly under their management... Taiah decided to adventure out into the world! sendin money back every so often she traveled all the way to a small port called Orthon.     Soon after joining what is now known as the Raven's Alliance Taiah left on her own due to disagreeing with their methods.  Telling her former group she would return to Orthon with the ferry captain she snuck off during their next rest to make her own way.  Soon she made a pact with a group from the Black Hand to provide information on her former compatriots and act as a spy.  However that decision would soon cost her.  After the leaders of the Black Hand felt she had outlasted her usefulness she was put to death.
