The Crystallization

The Crystallization is a supernatural disaster, which made Salin within 25 years completely uninhabitable.
It was very likely caused by the death of Lyxza since the first part, the regicide, happened right after her death.

The regicide

Most of the Crystallization was a painfully slow process, but the beginning was not. Every ruler of the sapient species on Salin, all of their ministers, gouverneurs and other leading officals and most other people in their courts were transformed in a flash of light into mindless creatures made of crystal. These creature were hostile against all normal living creatures that came too close, but were for a long time otherwise inactive.

The slow death of Salin

In the first months after the regicide most people were occupied by the chaos caused by the complete eradication of the ruling class, so they didn't bothered too much about single beetles or blades of grass that became crystals. But in the next year the peasants made the unnerving discovery that a very small part of the crops has transformed into crystals.
With each passing year the animals and plants transformed became more numerous and the maximum size of the creatures that could be affected increased. Slowly hope eroded as the produced food decreased, causing mass starvation and fight between different groups. In the final years the creatures made of crystals became more active hunting living creatures, to transform the into more crystal creatures.
When the Gods finally brought the remaining living creatures with the exodus from Salin to Elir Salin was just an empty shell. Almost all plant life was gone, most types of little animals have gone extinct and even the sky has changed from its light purple color to a bleak white. Mostly larger animals and sapients reached Elir, but also their numbers have dwindled significantly.
