Babyl (Ba·bull)

Babyl (Ba·bull) is one of the older cities in Elloría. It is most famous for being ruined twice and never truly recovering after the second time.

Demographics

There are a decent amount of races in Babyl, but the town was and remains mostly human.

Government

After its destruction during the Centurion Wars, the Crimson Council was formed and took questionable rule over Babyl.

Defences

Back in their prime, Babyl had a worthy standing army able to take on any force. Some years and wars later, the only true defense for the town are the wizards and sorcerers of the Crimson Council.

Assets

The Red Sage is assigned to Babyl; the current sage is Pericles Galanotis.

History

Much like Khur Khaldûr, Babyl has had its fair share of destruction. Prior to the Abyssal Wars, Babyl was a great and powerful kingdom with lots of influence over the land and probably the strongest dynasty Elloría would ever see. Once Vúrol opened the Abyssal Gates, Babyl was the first to respond and with great strength. Baring most of the man-power towards the fight, Babyl would be the kingdom left in charge of the Worc force who were enslaved after the war; this would also lead to the beginning of their downfall.
Following the final rebuild of the last ruined city during the Abyssal War, a Worc force was formed and left as free labor in Babyl. After years of servitude, the orcs finally had enough and revolted. Destroying everything in their path, the city was all but razed.
After the remaining orcs fled the city, they later went and regrouped- only later to begin the Siege of Centuria. Being in a total state of shock and destruction, Babyl could not warn the nearby kingdoms of the recent revolt and forces amongst the land. After the flames were put out, the city began to rebuild what they could. Unfortunately, it would all be in vain.
Some hundred years later, the Centurion Wars broke out and Babyl would be the first victims of the Dwarves of Khur Khaldûr. Harboring the remainder of the anger on Babyl who lost control of the orcs, the dwarves released all of the anger and frustration upon the city in a sneak attack that would begin the war. The war itself would rage on for some time, but Babyl would be out of the fight for the entirety of it.
Upon the completion of the war, Babyl would begin their rebuilding process and with that, a change in regime once more. The formation of a more magical and traditional organization would take place: the Crimson Council. The council consists of wizards and sorcerers, not warlocks, and they collectively make the decisions for the town in the Hall of Blood
To this day, the city is still in a state of ruin. Many of the buildings are destroyed or burnt, yet to be rebuilt. However, the capitol buildings and acropolis in the middle of town were rebuilt quickly and remain in mostly pristine condition.

Architecture

Prior to its first destruction, the buildings and architecture in Babyl were world famous. The town was famous for its red roofs, pillars, and domed/pointed tops.

Geography

Like many of the other cities in Elloría, Babyl is built along the coastline and enjoyed many of the benefits that come along with life along the ocean. The city itself is built near a more mountain/hill region.
