Iliam (Ill·e·um)

Iliam (Ill·e·um) is a major port town located along the eastern coast of Elloría.

Demographics

A variety of people inhabit the town. All the town cares about is if you're able to make them money. There isn't truly a lower class within the town since there are so many opportunities for work within the city. That being said, the upper class merchants seem to have separated themselves from the civilians and have become the true ruling class over the government.

Government

The town is run by a mayor. However, the mayor has historically been a placeholder of the true policy makers: the merchant companies. Being an incredibly busy port town, there is a Grand Admiral assigned to oversee the trading activity that the companies partake in. The trade companies usually deal with this figure and typically do so with great respect- no ports to dock means no profits. The most famous instance of the Grand Admiral stepping in took place during the Barter Wars during the Fifth Age. The fighting and turf wars had gotten so bad around Iliam that all ports were temporarily closed until the fighting left their shores.

Defences

Iliam's Red Dock Military District makes up the islands coastal fortification. Home to a variety of gunships, the island is ready to defend any form of coastal raid that may appear. On the land located borders, defensive stone walls were put up with guard camps near by- many of these guards outsourced and paid by the mayor of Iliam.

Industry & Trade

Iliam is home to the largest trade network in all of Elloría- even bigger than Illendíl. That being said, their economy is still second behind only Illendíl, the mega capitol of the realm.

Iliam is home to the greatest and largest shipyards in all of Elloría.

Districts

The town is broken down into varying suburbs revolving around the common buildings nearby...
Merchant District - The west most island at the Purple docks where all the business matters are conducted.
Agriculture District - The western coastline is the one often referred to, however the entire outskirt of town makes up the agricultural district.
Market District - Covers the entire south eastern coastline below the Political district. Majority of the towns shops are located here.
Political District - Located in the heart of the town, home to all the government buildings.

Red Dock - Home to the naval fleet protecting the town.
Gold Dock - Largest ships make port here since this area provides the greatest space for docking.
Silver Dock - Effectively the largest stretch of docks in town, it receives the second biggest payloads in town.
Blue Dock - Receives merchant goods, but not at the same level as Gold or Silver docks
Green Dock - Typically used for vessels carrying agriculture cargo in and out.
Purple Dock - Where the shipmasters and contractors gather and disperse contracts throughout their businesses.
Black Dock - Port where the poisoners of Iliam are transported. 

Assets

Platinum Plaza is the second largest market hub in Elloría, only behind Piazza Market Garden in Illendíl. It is home to some of the freshest and finest goods in all of the lands. If you're looking for it, it'll be there.

Guilds and Factions

Many merchant companies work out of Iliam. Most notable are Pinnacle Mercantile and Tempest Trading Company. A fierce rivalry has spawned amongst the two competing companies and sabotage and pirating is not unknown to occur between them.

Tourism

Iliam is not known as an attraction around the realm, however many people end up visiting the city merely because of the business being conducted there.

Geography

The town is majorly built atop a lagoon with bridges connecting the scattered islands. Running throughout the islands are canals. These symbolic veins act as quick water transport, bypassing the busy city streets.

Natural Resources

Being built on a lagoon leading out to the southern ocean, water and fish and in abundance.
